Yeah, I personally think that above review is way too harsh lol. I can’t say I’ll listen to this often but I enjoyed it for what it is. Had a feeling it wouldn’t be a full traditional album with the short release window, and I think it’s cool they did something like this.
Yeah I meant I presumed it was just going to be the intro that was the same, then when the verse kicked in I realised they were copying the whole thing. Even some of the video slow-mo shots.
Yeah, my point where I started laughing was realizing they didn't just copy the entire song structure, but even exact shots from the music video. What the actual fuck??
This song got a lot of coverage from major publications too! It's not like this is some totally unknown band. Major yikes... I just don't understand how you end up doing it that blatantly. A section of a song, a chord progression, a riff, a melody, a rhythmic motif... those things on their own can be accidentally copied all the time. Pretty much everyone's done it. But the whole song? This is really strange.
Unsurprisingly, they’re just trying to post through it. Looks like they’re deleting comments and keep posting insta stories of people praising the track. What a weird move Good reminder to listen to the ambient thing Loathe just released though, still haven’t gotten around to that
Lol @ just brushing it off as being derivative as if it wasn’t a clear & direct rip Anyway, The Things They Believe was pretty cool. Not something I feel like I’ll put on very often at all, but there was some really unexpected stuff in there!
Just got into Softcult recently, just getting into Two Way Mirror drama. I gave it benefit of doubt until the chorus. Shit blew me away.
This album was my AOTY for 2020. I can’t even imagine where Loathe will take us with their next release. I’m guessing further down the Deftones route, but we’ll see!
Fans of Loathe should check out the band Blanket's new album "Modern Escapism" that dropped last week! Really incredible atmospheric blend of prog metal, post-rock and shoegaze. Very reminiscent of Deftones at times, but still its own thing.
Just catching up with all this and revisiting the record. I never picked up the vinyl either and now I'm regretting it as it seems sold out everywhere and the prices on Discogs are ridiculous. Hopefully they'll repress this soon. And yeah, "Is It Really You?" is the best song.
Ugh, this bump had me hopeful. And yes, Two-Way Mirror is still a incredible song. Check out Terminal from the new Silent Planet album if you haven't already, similar feel.
literally spun that one nonstop the first time i heard it because it reminded me of Two-Way Mirror. one of my favorite tracks of the year.
“Dimorphous Display” is pretty much an exact synonym of “Two-Way Mirror”, so that makes me think this will somehow be a reworking of that song.
