I've been going back listening to their older catalog trying to get into it more and while I'm still not big on The Cold Sun, this song from the split with Holding Absence fuckin rips and would not have been out of place on this record at all
I have to go back to this record but goddamn I just listened to “A Sad Cartoon” five times in a row, incredible song. This would be my AOTY if the whole record was in that vein
Listening to this record for the first time in a while. The heavy songs here just aren't that memorable to me, but the cleaner songs are some of my favorite songs released this year. I feel like we're 1-2 albums away from this band making a masterpiece. Until then I'll pick and choose instead of full album listens.
These guys are one of the first bands I want to see live (once it’s safe) when gigs start happening again. They were so good the couple of times I saw them last year before the album was out. With these new songs in tow they’ll be unreal. This thread being bumped again has also reminded me that I still need to pickup the vinyl too.
Liked this album a bit but remember it being very much a precursor to a masterpiece 1-2 albums down the road
yeah Two Way Mirror absolutely fucking bops, about half of the other tracks on here are very good, but the album as a whole ultimately comes up a little short. hope they can keep the momentum going forward.
I’ll have to give that a read in the morning tomorrow. Great to see them get a Kerrang cover feature though. I haven’t fully settled on my aoty list yet but this albums in my top 5 for sure. I watched this interview with Erik the other day and thought it was a cool chat. Sounds like the guys have got loads of ambition. Makes me proper stoked for what they do next (and for when I can see them live again).
I know people on here are much more preferential to the softer tracks on this album but I've come all the way around on the heavy stuff. They riff hard as hell
I like that the heavy bits are genuinely heavy. I just don't think they're as interesting or unique, and I want to hear a bit more of their personality. Meshuggah have already nailed down that hammering low end sound.
Revisited last weekend, and I appreciate it a lot more. Even tho I’m not as huge on the metalcore songs it’s a good record.
Watching this and really appreciating how cinematic this is at times. Really detailed in the production.
That leak post says “album” instead of “single” so my personal guess is maybe a companion EP of B-sides or something. Also exactly one year after the album release.
