That band is like a fever dream to me. I still remember every section of Smokahontas like its scripture.
Yeah I don’t hear risecore here, I here the more nu metal influence a la Vein, and maybe some Code Orange at parts. But yeah, the Deftones vibes are the best part here. This album is great, but the next album could REALLY be something special.
Not to beat the “this sounds like” horse too much but I can’t not mention how I thought maybe Gored was the last track due to the minute long Deafheaven impression that followed it, haha. Had me thinking it went to “Loathe Radio” on Spotify or something
I'll be interested to see how I feel about this in a couple of months. It could be top ten of the year or it could just be a good record showing real promise for the future. Can't tell right now.
Just wrapped up my first listen and I enjoyed this. I found myself more into the songs that we atmospheric/melodic, or had a balance of that and their heavy/aggressive sound, more than I did the songs there just straight up heavy/aggressive jams, but I liked this overall and I’m looking forward to spending more time with it to see how my thoughts change over time
i listened to this on the drive home yesterday with a trillion giant snowflakes falling all around and it was a surreal experience
This is kind of losing its taste for me already. Two-Way Mirror and New Faces In The Dark are my favourites at the moment. I think the experiments work best on those songs. Having said that, the dreamy vocal production is too much for me at times - a bit more vocal definition would be much preferable in places. The more straight up heavy songs are cool but are kind of washing over me.
Here’s most of their London set. I was gutted to miss this show (was at the Menzingers that night) but my god after watching this I need to catch them next time round.
Very cool. glad this is getting the recognition it deserves as more than some generic metalcore album
