I don't know how I feel about this lol There's a lot of cringey moments, but the beats on a lot of these are great. New Mistakes stuck out for me especially.
My main issue with it- and I know it was a mixtape recorded in a short period of time, but so many of these songs she talks about the exact same shit
Was the reception to the two singles released from the upcoming album so bad that she's just keeping with the mixtape for now lol
Since the lawsuit, she's been on a full "play the victim, fuck the haters" shtick which continues to be at odds with her former body positive image. It's so played out Just going to revisit Big Grrrl Small World instead and reminisce about better times
I revisited the mixtape, and listened to the deluxe tracks, and I think the main issues are A) the songs just aren't very good, B) as mentioned, she is just rapping about the same thing on every track, we get it, you don't care what anyone thinks.... and C) Lizzo was at her best when she had a specific mid-point of rap, pop and humor. Her biggest hits are her biggest hits because they are so specific to her and music that only she could make. These tracks are.... just mediocre rap without the other two aspects. D) it's just hard to root for her. Anyway, NEW MISTAKES is clearly the best track here and I would have saved that for her album if I was her, if there even is an album, that is...
So the court is saying that this group of girls made up the fat shaming claim as retaliation for getting fired after they secretly filmed and shared video of lizzo?
Her career recently feels a lot like Chance the Rapper's trajectory. Both had an album come out that had its moment in the sun and catapulted them into arenas, headlining festivals, and top 40 singles. But their moment faded and they both have been overthinking their next moves in an attempt to get back to the highs they temporarily hit. ...also didn't help that she had all those allegations come out against her. But I still think even without that her heat would've cooled off like it has.
