I still think it's such a crazy heel turn to victimize yourself over your own sexual harassment allegations, Like, yes, there are gross people online that will still talk about her body, but theoretically, her body image should be/is COMPLETELY SEPARATE from what she's in hot water for. Her response to this whole thing has kind of driven me nuts.
Seems completely in line with what has been revealed of her character through the allegations, not surprised in the slightest but still disappointing to witness.
Lizzo's teasing her comeback/new music, it's gonna be interesting to see.... The lawsuit was thrown out and there have been multiple accounts for and against the claims in the first place, so yeah it's all a strange one
another one this week, I have to assume her team wasn't happy with the reception/performance of the first track
Wow I totally forgot that about that last single. Funny its been 2 weeks since its release and I dont think I've heard anyone even mention it.
Curious how these would be received if she hadn't had all the controversy. Honestly I think they're both really fun songs (especially Love in Real Life). I'm not saying she doesn't deserve the heat - I'm not really sure how I feel about her myself, but I do find it a little suspicious how fast the public was willing to turn on her compared to other problematic artist (though she may have had a more socially conscious fanbase to begin with)
Yeah, it's clear to me that she failed to protect her employees from a hostile work environment, and was recklessly abusive of her status, so I don't want to brush off her behavior. However, I think the reason she faced so much backlash isn't because her behavior was especially severe, but instead because it directly contradicted her image as a wholesome, positive, jack-of-all-trades celebrity. in contrast, artists like Travis Scott and Morgan Wallen thrived in the face of controversy because their scandals reinforced what their fans already liked about them (Scott's fans liked his dangerous reckless persona, and Wallen's fans, presumably, liked racial slurs).
It's definitely an interesting case study. I think both these songs are... fine, and in theory "fun," but they aren't GOOD enough to really make me think twice and probably never listen again. I do think in an alternate timeline where nothing happened, that an upbeat fun pop album could have been a really solid career turn, but after everything that happened it really just falls flat.
I feel like she exhausted that lane or needs to work with different people because both songs aren't hitting at all
For what it's worth, I'm working her show on Tuesday, so I'll get to see what the vibes are with her IRL fanbase and how they react to the new songs.
Feels like Lizzo’s entire persona was deconstructed after the “scandal,” if you can call it that. Even more so when she tried defending herself. I honestly really appreciated her as a positive presence in a toxic world, but then we all found out she’s toxic too. Sucks, and I doubt I’ll ever be able to shake off that disappointment.
Thinking she should take a step back, do some actual social work and put her money where her mouth is, and reconcile with the actual situation rather than deny everything and make it all about herself and attempt any kind of comeback
Has there not been an official album announcement & release date yet? Crazy how neither single made any sort of splash.
Her team's really putting in the work too, I've seen her pop up a lot of places and press etc etc, the hype just isn't there anymore after all that happened, and the songs aren't good enough to rise above that
