This was really stunning. Fantastic performances, gorgeous cinematography, absolutely beautiful score. It felt rich and arrestingly sincere in the way Call Me By Your Name feels, to me. I loved this.

 

the women might be little. but the feelings??? folks. the feelings are huge.

I really regret making my end of the year list before seeing this. Slotted it in at #4.

I'm baffled by people who found this hard to follow. I've never read the book, and only know the highlights I learned from Friends: Beth's death, Amy burning Jo's manuscript, Jo turning down Laurie and then he marries Amy.

 

I feel like Eliza Scanlen isn't getting enough credit for this.

 

I also feel like Emma Watson is getting about the right amount of credit.

 

As in "ehhhhhhhh?" She definitely stood out as the one slightly weak point, though I don't think she's bad.

 

eh, i think she fits the role perfectly. emma stone, who was initially cast, is 100x better as an actress but would have stood out much more out of place

 

Exactly. I'm glad that she seemed pretty content to just be a team player mostly in the background. It's what the role needed.

 

and that's just domestic

 

Hopefully that changes the narrative about female-led films, in front of and behind the camera.

There is always going to be online noise from the Reddit incel crowd, but when the movie is good it is going to find an audience and when the movie is bad word is going to get out. People look at stuff like the Ghostbusters reboot and learn the wrong lessons.

I saw it on a Tuesday at 12pm and it was probably 60% full.

 

And I honestly feel like this movie wasn’t properly (or rather, overly?) advertised. It’s gotta be doing numbers on word of mouth.

it was really lovely. was really sad to see so few younger guys in the theater.

 

Liked this way more than I was expecting, though there are a lot of little things that bugged me. Most notably the meta ending, which did not fit the tone of the film at all. Also do not understand people complaining about it being hard to follow. The past and present scenes parallel each other! It’s very straightforward!

Absolutely my favorite score of the year.

 

Dance On The Porch and The Book are standouts on an already great score.

 

I know Joker is gonna win score but would love to see this pull an upset.

 

I find "1917" to be the most incredible/impressive score I've heard in a long time, but this is good

 

Yeah unfortunately I think Joker is gonna win for score even though it’s my least favorite score of all the nominees. If anyone can beat it though I’d put my money on 1917. Little Women is still my favorite though.
