i think i wanna spend more time with the albums before i post my thoughts, but im still keeping up. i just did wide open spaces by dixie chicks, and plan to listen to its all good by dj screw either today or tomorrow.

 

Dude, enjoy. It's tremendous. It's a bit rough-around-the-edges in spots, but in a very intentional Jack White way.

Wow, All Things Must Pass is pretty good, huh? "What Is Life" is a banger and way better in context than it is in the "This is 40" trailer.

I go through phases where I fall madly in love with different songs from that record all the time, but there's never a moment where I don't think "If Not for You" is one of the most effortlessly wonderful love songs ever recorded.

 

his slide playing is out of this world

 

Did you know he plays the slide on Badfinger's "Day After Day"? When I found that out I was immediately shocked I hadn't put it together before.

 

i did! love that band. honestly probably more than the beatles lol.

 

I agree with the first part of that sentence and then blacked out when I read the second half. Haha.

Straight Up is a full-on staple classic. I've only heard that and No Dice so far.

"little red shoes" is a masterclass in storytelling, "have mercy" fucking rips, and the bass in "mrs. leroy brown," is stellar. gimme more."

It's funny that something Parker did more or less for the money and that critics and purists turned their noses up at has aged as some of his most beloved stuff.

 

Since I don't necessarily give a fuck about Thrash, I tried to find a Philly band. I'm listening to this:
Pulsing Dark Absorptions, by Daeva

 

the link has me fairly convinced it'll be good

 

vocals aren't really thrash, but this is cool enough

 

It was fine enough. By the end of it I was digging it. What are other Thrash essential albums I should listen to?

Outside the Big Four you could try Arise or Chaos AD by Sepultura. If you want something newer either of the Power Trip LP's are A++

 

I don't know if it's *quite* thrash but The Sleeping Eye by Iron Age is phenomenal
