I remember the conversation on AP.net in the lead up not being particularly positive, lol, but it does feel like the conversation around it has largely changed for the better. Personally, I was excited from the moment "The Catalyst" was released. "Waiting for the End" & "When They Come for Me" are both top tier LP tracks.
needs a like, dislike, and "i agree with half and disagree with half but its ambiguous which is which."
i'm hopin it's a live album/dvd from his recent solo tour. he's mashed lp beats/riffs to his solo lyrics and it sounds quite good.
1. A Thousand Suns is far and away LP's best album and I doubt they could ever find a way to top it. It's the perfect mix of just being experimental enough to stand out and warrant discussion but also accessible enough to be commercially viable. The fact that a band with the fame and reputation of Linkin Park put out that album will never cease to astound me. Plus it's a great listen when you're tripping. 2. New Mike song is pretty damn good.
I remember some pre-release review of A Thousand Suns said it could be the Kid A/Dark Side of the Moon of our generation, but it will most likely never be taken that seriously just because it’s Linkin Park.
I think my three favs are still Minutes to Midnight, Reanimation, & The Hunting Party, but A Thousand Suns always dances around that tier. Comparing it to Kid A is majorly overdoing it, though, lol; it's not that big a swing.
There are only 2 or 3 songs where I prefer the original to the "reanimated" version. It sometimes doesn't even feel like a remix album with how much the band rewrote their own songs. It pretty easily sits in my top 3 behind ATS and MTM
this whole post is good takes! and yes, I think Reanimation sits in a pretty unique spot between studio album and remix album, it's not fully one or the other
