It's also the first song on the album, so I think it's a nice heavy and familiar song right out of the gate to get the album going.
She honestly kills her screaming chorus, her singing voice is good but I'm not as much into that as an LP song. If Mike did all the clean singing and she just did the screams this album may not even lack for me.
The Mars Volta's Cedric Bixler-Zavala & His Wife Call Out Linkin Park Over Emily Armstrong's Ties To Scientology & Convicted Rapist Danny Masterson - Theprp.com And here we go.
Now in Rolling Stone. They can't possibly ignore this now. Linkin Park's Emily Armstrong Criticized: Danny Masterson, Scientology
From a music standpoint, it's impossible to hear Emily sing the old songs and not have them sound like covers. There just isn't a way to separate the volume of material they've released from the frontman who wrote and sang them. She could go out and sing them note for note perfect and it's not going to change that the vast majority of their live show is going to be at best karaoke. From a "maybe she specifically was a bad choice", Linkin Park is a band that has long stood for mental health and lost their most recognizable member to suicide and now his songs are being sung by someone who was by all accounts raised in a belief system that thinks psychiatry is a scam and mental illness doesn't exist.
Yeah, my biggest beef with the tools on Reddit that are like "leave her alone" is they want to make it about not wanting Chester replaced when it's not wanting Chester replaced with someone whose belief system is the complete antithesis of what he represented.
I think the most batshit narrative I saw on Reddit is that the lyrics of the new song are Emily subliminally denouncing Scientology. The mental gymnastics people do to accept shitty situations is wild.
I dunno about subliminal, but again, I actually don't think it's a huge stretch to interpret the lyrics to be denouncing her time in the cult. I mean, what doesn't make sense about that as a possibility?
Your blades are sharpened with precision Flashing your favorite point of view I know you're waiting in the distance Just like you always do Just like you always do Already pulling me in Already under my skin And I know exactly how this ends, I Let you cut me open Just to watch me bleed Gave up who I am for who you wanted me to be Don't know why I'm hoping For what I won't receive Falling for the promise of the emptiness machine The emptiness machine Going around like a revolver It's been decided how we lose 'Cause there's a fire under the altar I keep on lying to I keep on lying to Already pulling me in Already under my skin And I know exactly how this ends, I Let you cut me open Just to watch me bleed Gave up who I am for who you wanted me to be Don't know why I'm hoping For what I won't receive Falling for the promise of the emptiness machine I only wanted to be part of something I only wanted to be part of, part of I only wanted to be part of something I only wanted to be part of, part of I only wanted to be part of something I only wanted to be part I let you cut me open Just to watch me bleed Gave up who I am for who you wanted me to be Don't know why I'm hoping So fucking naive Falling for the promise of the emptiness machine The emptiness machine (I only wanted to be part of something) The emptiness machine (I only wanted to be part of) The emptiness machine
