Let’s fucking go! I’ve been waiting for something to pop up on filter news. Glad it finally did. Interesting there’s no genre listed. Wonder what they will sound like with this return. Hopefully it’s back to their origins and will sound like something off hybrid theory/meteora

Personally I’d be down for something with elements of their classic sound but still something new as well. I’m curious what they’d sound like now, and they generally always tried to push their sound in new directions so I hope that continues.

It will definitely be interesting to see what way they go. I’m not opposed to something new sounding but I think for fan service and their hard core fan base they want to deliver. It’s their first new song in 7 plus years with potentially a new singer

  15. No way this will sound anything like Hybrid Theory or Meteora lol. That's 20 to 25 years old at this point, and after those albums, they kept changing things up so I expect the same this time around. Considering the Minutes To Minight sounding alt rock Mike has dabbled in again on his collabs with Demi Lovato, Kailee Morgue + his solo stuff (Already Over), I wouldn't be surprised if some of that spilled on their new stuff. If an album is near, I do think we'll get something eclectic in classic Linkin Park fashion.

Yeah, I feel heavily the band would look at a return to Hybrid Theory and Meteora as a step backwards.

Hell, they've said as much in their lyrics. Mike would never.

Closest it'll get to a HT/Meteora sound is if they take cues from Living Things

Living Things is just a big beautiful branch on the tree built by Hybrid Theory. I would LOVE that kind of sound, or whatever that sound is in 2024.

I am sure whatever they do it will be an interesting and cool evolution on what came before like everything they made

i have strong nostalgia for Living Things. i don't think some elements have aged super well, but i remember doing a huge deep dive into their back catalog the summer before my senior year of high school and learning that the album leaked like 3 weeks early. felt like i had something special on my hands.

it's probably my least favourite of their catalogue but there's still some killer stuff on there. just not where I wanted them to go after ATS I suppose

the bit Brad sings on Until it Breaks is so good, always wanted more of his vocals after that

Living Things has for sure remained my least favorite album of theirs since it came out. (One More Light might be a bit more uneven for me, but I’d go back to its highs before anything on Living Things.)

I do think in some ways that’s where a new album would land closest, insofar as it’s fairly dead center in their stylistic range. But, the long gap and personnel change would make it immediately more interesting.

To some extent, on an instrumental level, I could see a new album feeling like a greatest hits of sorts.

I should do a discography playthrough, Hybrid theory was one of my first albums I got as a teenager but I kind of stopped following them after Midnights to Midnight, I remember being disappointed by One more light because it sounded too radio pop at the time but that's been a long time ago.
