I'm bummed Friendly Fire didn't do anything for me. I did spend my workday listening to the whole Meteora20 digital album. Live tracks, demos, and all. Was a great ride. Some of those demos are EPIC.
Really enjoyed Friendly Fire and am glad it saw the light of day. I super miss this band- I had some of my younger employees listen to Minutes to Midnight and A Thousand Suns recently and they loved both. Just a phenomenal discography. Not a week goes by that I don’t think about Chester and the impact he had.
They can do whatever they want, it's their band, I just don't see why they would replace him instead of moving forward
I would argue getting a new singer is moving forward. They really don't owe us anything, but if they're choosing to continue the legacy they started, they have every right and it's something to congratulate them on, not critique.
Yeah, I don’t see the problem. We all have a way of delineating different eras of classic bands. Like, I don’t listen to non-Layne Alice In Chains or non-Weiland Stone Temple Pilots, but I’m glad they’re still at it.
Part of me would be surprised if they continued with a new singer as a full-on new member, instead of idk, a “Linkin Park & [singer’s name]” project or whatever. Not just for their sake, but because of the pressure that’d be for the singer. (Not that we all haven’t, myself included, talked around the various options for years, lol.) If they’ve gotten to the point where they’re comfortable moving forward like this, I’m happy for them. And, if that person isn’t terribly off base, a woman in the role would be a good way to soften direct Chester comparisons.
now i'm running through a list of potential female vocalists who could not only honor yet uniquely expand upon Chester's parts, but whose voice could blend well with the band's instrumentation (assuming the new singer isn't relatively unknown)
Looks like he walked back his statement and they updated the article, “With regards to this linkin park singer thing. I know nothing about any of that. People sure do love to take my words out of context. I love those guys and wish them the best. Wow I was like what in the actual f**ck? I said nothing about knowing any of that and never brought it up. I love Chester and there will be another him ever. Strange that that dude said something to me about it not the other way around. get real dude. Not cool!”
Isn't the original statement from a video interview? I'm at work so I can't watch, but it seems real easy to verify if it was "out of context" or not.
This is the lead singer of Orgy we're talking about, brains is not his strong point. I seem to remember they did some dodgy crowdfunding thing a few years ago too.
Bonnie from Stand Atlantic would absolutely kill the role. Funny, when Sum 41 announced their breakup I was wondering if Deryck was gonna do a farewell tour with Linkin Park. He’s no screamer, though.
