The Hunting Machine (is it what it was called ?) seemed like their last time doing something that aggressive and heavy.
I just realized my least favorite part of their last couple albums has been Chester. Mike still delivers killer verses, but Chester's choruses have fallen so flat in many cases. I think it was their last album where the choruses of two songs sounded nearly identical, both musically and in how Chester sung them?
I thought exactly the same. He's been struggling live as well these past three years, even though he always sounded pitch perfect before. I hope everything is okay with his voice. I'm sure he can't scream/sing heavier songs like he used to. It's better for him to go in a softer direction instead of straining his vocals.
Yeah The Hunting Party was aggressive and heavy but it wasn't like M2M in trying to put out a straight hard rock album. Minutes was their intro into branching away from that nu-metal sound. I just wish there was an album in between Minutes and ATS to bridge that gap and make the transition a little more smoothly.
I was actually thinking Guilty All The Same and Wastelands were basically the same chorus at different tempos, but you're totally right about the closer too. Yikes.
Ha I forgot about that song, I'm always thinking "but how did they not realize how similar they are to each other ?"
ATS was a peak for me; loved Living Things, but thought The Hunting Party was highly forgettable (is that the general consensus?). Have high hopes for this next album.
Looks like the album is called "One More Light" and it's out May 19th. Pre-orders are up here: LINKIN PARK | NEW ALBUM 'ONE MORE LIGHT' | AVAILABLE MAY 19
I like the new song. Interested to see if this is going to be the direction for the rest of the album.
This sounds pretty good, and I think that can be chalked up to A) Chester's vocals being filtered/autotuned or whatever that is, and B) the fact this song has a chorus with an actual hook. (Although I'm disappointed that Mike didn't show up anywhere. Do these guys not like singing together on the same tracks anymore?)
