I kinda enjoy the new song for what it is. I'm still down for pop Linkin Park. My one complaint is that, yeah, we need some more Mike Shinoda. An autotuned Mike doing his best Drake impression would be a good fit for this direction, lol.
All this LP news has me listening to their discography again and I still like Hunting Party a lot, has some great songs on there and to me even the weaker ones are still good enough to not be filler. I'd still place it towards the end of the discography though. I know I said I hate the way that they are going with these fully electronic pop songs, but on their own merits I actually do like both Heavy and Battle a lot.
The chorus of Heavy sounds like Linkin Park, but the verses, especially the first one, just sounds like the latest radio trend and it just bugs me.
I disagree. I think Hunting Party is a bit mediocre on the whole (and Drawbar is a massive waste of Tom Morello) but Rebellion and Guilty All The Same remain two of their very best songs. Re: Chester's singing, his voice is not as strong as it once was and he's definitely not as versatile a vocalist as he thinks he is.
I'm all for bands progressing and trying new directions, until the point where they cease being a band. That's what's happened here. This might have the Linkin Park label slapped on it, but it's Chester Bennington and his laptop featuring a variety of female guest vocalists.
Drawbar was such a waste, I agree. I love Rebellion and Guilty, but also think War, Keys, All For Nothing, Mark The Graves and Final Masquerade are all keepers too! The band members have come out and said that there is guitar in it, they all wrote for it, ext and videos of them playing Heavy live has everyone involved......but I just can't hear it. This is one of the cases where I'd love a "making of" dvd to come with the album, to see how it all came together and help me pick out parts. Remember when every album from a major band came with one of those?
Really wanna hear "Good Goodbye" soon... Apple Music updated with the track length (3:31), so we'll probably hear it within the next week.
Personally I'm still a little on the fence about the new album, I've come around on both tracks so far but hope there's some tracks that are more unique even if they're still very pop-heavy. "Good Goodbye" really knocking it out of the park would give me a lot more faith.
Linkin Park Premieres The Lyrics To "Good Goodbye" Featuring Pusha T & Stormzy | Genius This one has a really weak chorus
Might work well within the context of the song itself tbh... I have a feeling I'll like this one considerably more than the first two songs released.
I fell in love with these guys after I heard a song where he yells "Shut up when I'm talking to you" so I don't think lyrics will ever be something that makes or breaks a song for me Great news!!!!!
I'm honestly not really a fan of the idea of releasing all the lyrics to a song in advance of the actual song. I don't really know what purpose it serves, you can hype up a song without revealing a huge piece in advance and setting expectations one way or the other.
I get the feeling this will basically be like a Fort Minor track released under the LP name... which honestly I'm fine with.
