Yeah, I can see Katy Perry singing this. I can't call it bad necessarily but I don't think this album's going to be for me. Living Things 2.0 :(
Even though I don't dislike the song, disappointed. Chester's voice is great and the melody is catchy, but I don't see myself ever coming back to the song and hope the whole album isn't this. I can't see myself buying an album that I won't listen to. What song on Living Things sounds like this or Heavy?
It's odd that they're going for this sound, which almost seems tailor made for Shinoda to contribute some vocals, but he's not really around based on these two songs.
When I say "2.0" I'm less thinking of it as more of the same from Living Things and more like this is the logical extension of the sound they went for on that album. In particular, Battle Symphony sounds to me like Burn It Down but more so; no Mike vocals, drums and guitars dialled right back. The fact that it makes some of Living Things sound genuinely heavy (no pun intended) by comparison is rather amusing, actually.
Haha Mike had that small like 5 line rap in at the end of Burn it Down. I've never understood what the band does in songs like that or the new songs. Live it looks like they are playing, but I don't hear what they are playing. Instead of having 8bit style electronic music, why not just use the band that is there lol.
Mike does keys and sometimes guitar when he doesn't rap. The guitarist does some electronic stuff as well, idk about the others.
Agreed, the move to more pop and electronic can be forgiven but if Mike isn't rapping or singing, I think this album will be a wash for sure.
I said it after "Heavy"'and got flack for it but I'll say it again. This sounds like it should be a Chester solo record. Two songs now with no Mike vocals and music coming down to showcase his vocals like a pop song would from a solo artist
Yeah, I mean know Mike and Joe are probably writing the music but its something a pop producer and Chester could do on their own. I wonder what the rest of the guys think about this direction. I remember in the ATS dvd not everyone was on board with tracks like The Catalyst due to how electronic it was, hard to imagine they would change their minds completely esp after the Hunting Party.
I mean if you already like pop music then this song is no worse than most of the stuff playing on Top 40 stations nowadays. I dont think it's that bad....but it really just sounds like The Chainsmokers feat. Chester Benington. I can't even picture how the live shows are gonna be. How do you transition from this to Faint?
I like this a lot. I can see why most wouldn't dig it as a Linkin Park song, but I've always loved Chester's voice so I welcome this direction so far. I also haven't cared for anything post Meteora other than A Thousand Suns, ha, so there's that.
I have no idea what their DJ does post-Meteroa. There's been no scratching for like 4 albums and Mike does synths.
These guys are my favorite band, and I've loved all their albums thus far. These new songs are hard to warm up to, but we'll see when the album drops. Hahn probably does a fair amount of production with the electronic elements. Also, off the top of my head I know there's scratching on Lost in the Echo (Living Things) and Blackout (ATS).
I've also loved all their albums. I'll still check it out but if it's not mixed up at all and becomes the Chester show, I'll be disappointed. Are you talking about the parts of Chester's screaming that were skipped around? I don't call that scratching. The ending of Wrenches and Kings had turn table scratching though, I want more of that. That was a joke about how they used him on MTM lol.
