This is okay so far. Battle Symphony is still ass. Feel like I'm probably gonna word vomit when I finish this
I was worried this album wouldn't do anything for me, but I like it quite a bit. I'm probably destined to like anything they do because I've been such a big fan for a long time, but this really isn't bad IMO. The second half is waaaay better than the first. The last four tracks on here I feel actually introduce some creativity and do a great job showing off a poppier version of songs that still sound like the band.
I'll also say that I genuinely don't think they're aiming for pop appeal here -- they've had plenty of hits before just by placing a radio-friendly song here or there on an album. Like or dislike the results, I think they really did want to go this direction and push themselves to write a different kind of album.
Wouldn't you? I really like Hybrid Theory. I don't just blindly despise an album because of the band. This.... is garbage.
I think I'd expect that anyone who's been a fan thus far would probably find something to like here. But if someone already didn't like the band, or only liked HT and Meteora and no subsequent releases, I'd be surprised if they liked this one.
Excited to pick this up. I've grown to love "Heavy," and I generally dig "Good Goodbye" and "Invisible." I'm sure it won't go down as a favorite or anything, and I probably wouldn't care for it without prior fandom, but I'm at peace with that.
Yeah I agree tbh, the last four tracks are all pretty strong and showcase some interesting different directions.
I know I already commented on this but it's crazy how much of a quality divide there is between halves of this. 6-10 are legitimately probably the five best songs on here.
Interesting reactions in here. Based on the singles, I'm not even really excited about this one. I'll stream it at some point though.
When my girlfriend said, "Guess what band this is" a couple weeks ago while we were listening to the radio in my car, I sat there like I was supposed to know, but I couldn't figure it out. I thought it was a radio pop girl singer featuring another dude, but I couldn't place it. And then when I said I give up, she said, "LINKIN PARK!" and I was SHOCKED! After that, I knew that this would not be anything I would ever voluntarily listen to. Shit suckkkkks.
There's a part of me that hopes the negative comments are exagerated, but the other part is just saying "Dude what do you expect, you've heard 4 songs that you don't like, do you really expect to like the album?"
Don't expect much of a different sound on the other tracks, but IMO they released some of the weaker songs first.
From the 4 songs released, I like Heavy the most and it is part of the second half of the album which you say is better than the first, so I might enjoy some of it. I expect it to be my least favourite LP album though. I have no problem with them going poppier, I actually like their more poppy songs on past albums. The other 3 songs I heard just really didn't do much for me.
