Their self-titled --> Comatose era is pretty good and at the very least earnest, after that they made it big on the radio and their songwriting and ideology both went to shit.
Yeah, Comatose was my cut off, lol. And, even that is borderline, though as someone who can have fun with occasional Nickelback songs on the radio, the lows were still mostly fine to me. You get to that “Monster” song that I heard a ton (‘cause I still did youth ministry shit), and… yeah, nah. I feel like Collide would still really hold up real good, but it’s hard to be incentivized to check.
After a few listens, I think I dig the guitar tone most on Let You Fade. It’s got a bit more bite than the main release. All three bonus tracks do, really. There are times on FZ where the riffing sounded like old Linkin Park, and then the wall of sound doesn’t always hold up. Even a track like “Two Faced” opening riff, as heavy as it is, doesn’t have the relentlessness of Let You Fade. Maybe it’s that the atmospheric stuff fills in more of the gaps, but it provides that ethereal quality the best LP tracks have, like everything on Meteora.
Skillet does have one of my favorite album titles especially for a rock band, Hey You, I Love Your Soul, lol
Been down a small rabbit hole today reading old Linkin Park lore wikis. Looking at the start of the band and Xero stuff. Started when I was curious about what the sample was that plays at the end of Overflow. BTW its "Fuse" from the Xero demo tape. Which I thought was rad. Like there's only 4 known copies of Xero demo tape out there with the first art work of a shopping cart. (The more known artwork is a weird baby Shinoda drew). Odd fact: Hoobastank is older than Linkin Park(Xero). As far as From Zero goes. I've grown to like it more and more. Its the most I've listened to or liked an LP album since Minutes to Midnight. These 3 new tracks I really dig too.
Woah, Let You Fade is not what I expected but I love it. Amazing guitar tone and rhythm, plus the final chorus is killer. Overall I’m super happy with this era. Emily clearly has “it” in terms of being a powerhouse lead vocal, and I feel like as Collin/Mike continue to work together they’re going to continue to push the envelope on the producing and songwriting front. Have loved LP for a hell of a long time and generally just happy that they’re back and seemingly having a lot of fun. The “in the studio” videos have been great too — wish every band did that.
I agree with all of this. I think “Let You Fade” is my favorite of this new era. I’m going to look back with a lot of fondness at this album cycle. My daughter used “Heavy is the Crown” as her hype-up music before all of her softball games since last year, and just all-around it’s been fun having them back.
http://unshattermovie.com Looks like we might finally be getting the live album/movie whatever that might be is linked to lp
This whole thing feels like a fever dream to me, it happened so fast and then I completely forgot about it
I just don't hear about them at all I guess, feels like there's a very small bubble that's still following
I think they are still quite big over here in Europe. They had a sold out tour in the UK at least but unsure about anywhere else. I still like a few songs from the album but it isn't something I got back to often as a whole.
maybe it was 'let's announce concerts a month before', but the new album came and went so fast. hoping there's a vinyl version of this show to have, as i'm a fan of the new material.
wow I'm glad I turned on the Rock Am Ring live stream - they opened with With You, my favorite LP song, the first time LP has played it since 2014. damn
probably regionally - I was at the San Jose show and it was packed, maybe not sold out but packed. though I do remember "uh, oh, LP tour not selling!" posts on social media for other markets...
The tour ended up selling a lot better than it originally looked. They sold a lot of day of tickets. A lot of the shows ended up sold out or close to sold out. Chicago was very close to a sell out
