Yeah they sound great. Weakest link in the new lineup is Alex, but even he's gotten better. Emily is CRUSHING basically everything, even stuff I thought Chester was really struggling with by the end (namely New Divide)
I thing the new songs are amazing live. Let me tell you something, Two Faced is an absolute Banger live. Emily is absolutely killing it right now.
I got keys to the kingdom last night in Grand Rapids. Holy shit it’s so good live. Emily kills it on that song. also agree about two faced. Crowd went insane for that song. also Grand Rapids ended up almost sold out. I’d say it was about 95-98% full
OKC was close to a sell out too, which leading up to it made no sense, they had a ton of tickets available. I'm not sure how they moved that many tickets that quick. I'm telling you right now, Emily is the highlight of the live show. Her energy and vocal ability are top notch.
i'm assuming her live vocals on older LP songs have improved since that livestream from last year? because her voice on some of those tracks sounded a bit rough
I'd say so. There's a few songs in the set I think she still sounds pretty awkward on (Crawling is the big one, but the new version of Where'd You Go they just started playing is sounding pretty rough as of now too), but by and large she's worked out most of those kinks. The worst she sounded in Grand Rapids IMO was ironically on a From Zero song
I was at the MD show last night and I expected it to be good but it was actually phenomenal, amazing setlist and they sounded great. I never got to see them with Chester so I can't speak to it "feeling" like a true LP show but to me it definitely did, and it felt like a perfect way to finally check them off my list
Unshatter was one of the first songs they wrote/did with Emily. Up from the bottom come together in only a few weeks and was done in between legs of the tour at the end of last year
Let you fade is definitely not what people are gonna think it is. But it’s so freaking good. The last minute of the song is so good. the 3 bonus tracks are prolly the 3 best songs on this whole thing.
Based on interviews and touring and what not I’d say 2026 or 2027 but that also depends on what Emily does with dead Sara
Yeah, I know it's a bit of a broken record here, but these three deluxe songs are pretty piss poor, this whole iteration of the band is so bland
This new song sounds very One More Light to me. Which, that’s probably their most uneven album, but I stand by its highlights, so I don’t mind this being a slightly more guitar-y version of it. My take on this album cycle is still that it’s low tier Linkin Park, but still solid and likable enough. And, whether this era of the band continues to be “safe” (maybe doesn’t help that the singer is as big of a fan as she is), or they start trying different things now that they’re touring and actually in band mode… I think what comes next will be stronger.
Oh, and on that Skillet note: a.) I haven’t listened to them in years, but I don’t feel like this is that much like them? Idk, maybe this is where they’ve settled. b.) Some of Skillet’s earlier material rules tbh. c.) The worst thing about Skillet isn’t how bland they became; it’s how vocal a conservative shit their singer is. My 70-yr-old dad has a book that guy wrote called “Wimpy, Weak, and Woke.”
UFTB being the one song they've put out since FZ that was actually completely written after the FZ sessions does inspire confidence for the next album cycle IMO. Between that, TEM, Overflow (specifically the live version), and GTG, there's definitely promise even if the album as a whole is probably my least favorite LP album
I agree there are things to really like on FZ. I would add Stained to that list as a really good version of “new” LP. But so much of it on the record just blends from one to another.
Oh I didn't mean it as an insult. I couldn't help but be reminded of them with that choppy guitar riff and the interplay between Mike and Emily, that's all. I think it's "Falling Inside" or something I suddenly had in mind. A childhood friend and I would have that one, among other Skillet songs, on repeat while playing one of those wrestling PS2 games back then.
Then we have reached what Fred Colon persists in referring to as an "imp arse". That said, i agree the vocalist is a huge fucking shitpile and they do have some very cheesy ass songs.
