If this is how we find out that everyone in Linkin Park is a scientologist, I'm going to be very upset.
Looks like the subreddit opened a megathread about it, definitely is gaining traction https://www.reddit.com/r/LinkinPark/comments/1fabten/emily_armstrong_scientology_megathread/
Especially since they framed it as being about her scientology and not about her support of Masterson.
Yeah, no one’s got anything on Zane. He’s been around so long and he matured into the chillest dude. It’s great we have someone who can do those interviews as there are few that could with the same success.
some of the Reddit commenters are convinced that the lyrics for the new song are potentially about her leaving/criticizing Scientology. i think this is a big stretch and probably not true. if she has left and is trying to protect herself from intimidation, the worst thing she could do is try to sneak criticism in song lyrics. consequently, others are convinced that Scientology-critical lyrics might only hurt her if she's still a member. regardless of whether or not she's still part of the church, any criticism would probably not go over well for her, and the lyrics read just as generic as the band's others. so unless she's said otherwise, i see no reason to believe that she's left the church and that the song is about something else entirely.
I said in one of these threads that this was my hopeful interpretation, but I'm not convincing myself it's fact because there's no concrete evidence to support it. Some people are getting real high on hopium, although I can't blame them.
re: Masterson, other Reddit comments seem to be in agreement that she supported Masterson of her own free will and that it's not a good look whatsoever, but that even if she regrets offering that support, she also probably won't say anything for her safety. realistically, i'm starting to think at most we'd probably get a plain statement similar to Beck's that she's no longer a member (if she's left, which i doubt), and a weak, blanket condemnation of violence. it's probably much easier from a PR perspective to address her involvement with Scientology than it would be to bring up her relationship with Masterson and open up that can of worms.
Obviously we’re not going to know what the song’s about unless they explicitly come out and tell us, but I don’t see it as a stretch at all to think that’s what it could be about
The Mars Volta's Cedric Bixler-Zavala & His Wife Call Out Linkin Park Over Emily Armstrong's Ties To Scientology & Convicted Rapist Danny Masterson - Theprp.com And here we go.
the only way i could see it being the case that the song's about leaving Scientology is if she somehow feels incredibly well-protected from any backlash or intimidation she'd receive at the hands of the church. and again, that feels like a stretch given their power and resources.
Chrissie has gone through, and still goes through, so much. Good for her for feeling brave enough to share these posts
Based off Chrissie's post it sounds like Emily is still very much a part of Scientology. Also huge YIKES to read that she not only was showing up to the courthouse to support Masterson, but also was apparently harassing victims on their way out.
Obviously we can only make guesses from an outsider's perspective, but everything Cedric and Chrissie have posted about scientology, Masterson, and more has turned out to be proven true. I trust them right now saying what they are saying about her still being a part of it
i don't use Twitter anymore, but it looks like it's spreading over there, specifically her connections to Masterson
