I'm gonna wait for a better quality version before listening again, but I can tell I'm going to listen to it a ton

 

Just listened on spptify and concluded I'd like this album infinitely more if it was released as a single.

Everything except Almost Had Me can vanish into the abyss. It's so upsetting that Lights now has 2 albums I just despise.

 

Seeing that I think New Fears, Savage and Moonshine are some of the best tracks here, I have to really really really disagree with the above

 

This album is fantastic. I honestly don't think she'll ever miss.

 

I can't get over how perfect the Moonshine chorus is

 

I think the first half is a lot better than the second. We were here and kicks are bad and the closer is the only track on the second half I wanna relisten to.

 

I almost feel like this is the album Taylor Swift could've made after 1989 if she hadn't decided to embark on this whole heel-turn thing she has going on. Some of the vocal melodies, on "We Were Here" and "Kicks" especially, remind me of Swift a lot.

Catchy as hell album, not gonna lie.

 

lol as I was listening to this, I was thinking "Take notes, T-Swift"

this album is damn good, not as much filler as the last one. there's only one song that feels just "ok" (Morphine)

 

I like every song on this. I also like Taylor Swift. I also like defining how I feel about things without shitting on something else for context. This has been a public service announcement.

 

Have to re-listen but i love "skydiving" "until the light" and "fight club" in particular

 

Wasn't shitting on Taylor Swift, just pointing out some similarities I heard between this and 1989/that album's style, which made me think this is sort of how a follow-up to that album might have sounded if she had chosen to follow that sound instead of change it up.

Anyway I'm happy to clarify anything I say that's not clear, just hit the ol' quote button.

 

I love skydiving so much. Don’t care for the lyrics or main riff in savage but it’s a fun listen as well. She sounds great in these.

 

I really like basically everything here other than Savage and Giants. Kind of wish it was less Top 40 and more ambient, but Im still liking it a surprising amount.

 

"Savage" and "Morphine" probably my favorites thusfar.

 

I think Lights has done a pretty impressive job of being trend-adjacent when it comes to her pop tendencies. Siberia definitely felt like her version of the EDM rise that started around 2011, Little Machines was a bit more in the vein of whatever-you-call it like CHVRCHES/Purity Ring/Passion Pit type electro-pop

And now Skin & Earth definitely has elements of what is current, but done in her own way. "Morphine" and "Fight Club" feel very Kygo/tropical house-y without being obnoxious haha. "We Were Here" and "Kicks" both have verses with cadences and melodies that a ton of pop songs are using currently, the chorus of "Giants" is basically fun.'s "We Are Young" (not really as current as the other examples).

Anyway, I think that's pretty important as a pop artist, to stay current and relevant without straight out copying what's happening or chasing trends just to chase them

 

I don’t like every song she puts out but I think this hits the nail on the head. Had a similar thought myself upon first listen but this describes it way better haha

 

Haha thanks, I've been thinking about this a lot while listening to this album and I really like that about her as a musician. To me, I feel like her music comes off super genuine overall. I never feel like she is trying to jump on what's HOT, but rather that she is in tune with the modern pop world and creates what she wants to in that space

 

I remember reading an interview before Siberia came out in which she said she’d be adopting some of those themes and I was worried but I grew to love that album so much. I think skin and bones has some missteps (off the top of my head i think kicks sounds a little artificial) but I agree she’s good at reading what’s going on and being trend-adjacent, as you put it. I like that term haha

 

I've generally disliked her music over the years but love this album.

 

I’ve always liked Lights more as a person than I like her music which translates into having high expectations that I’ll like her new music more than I ever do. It’s weird.

 

Man, I want her to do a headline tour.

 

Just a fun fact Lights said at the show last night, there was a title track for skin and earth that got cut
