Lights has returned with a video for “Prodigal Daughter.”

Alt-pop icon Lights has returned with new single “Prodigal Daughter,” the first track from her forthcoming new album expected for arrival in 2022. The artist, who has recently collaborated with the likes of deadmau5, ILLENIUM, Travis Barker and more, turns the spotlight back on herself with the infectious, frenetic track. The single is also accompanied by an official video, which is streaming now on Lights’ official YouTube channel. “Prodigal Daughter” is available now on all streaming platformsvia Fueled By Ramen.

Lights shared, “‘Prodigal Daughter’ is about stripping away all the deep-seated, oppressive expectations society and religion can place on you, in order to find out what you really want out of your life. Musically, the song is dynamic and wild; beautifully gentle at times and aggressive at others, representing the journey. Ultimately this is a banger about finding yourself.”

The artist has also revealed “The Clinic,” a new side story based off Lights’ Skin&Earth comic series. Written and illustrated exclusively by Lights herself, fans can read the first six pages of the story at www.visittheclinic.com.

Let's get these people moving faster!

There is way too much happening in that video - with more cuts than I can handle. I really want to like Lights, maybe because of the CanCon, and she's collaborated with so many of my favourite Canadian artists (e.g. Shad's Remember to Remember). But her solo stuff doesn't do it for me, and the with the effects used on her vocals in songs like this, it just highlights how much I prefer how she sounds with effects toned back.

    Trusted Prestigious

Wow, I had no clue she signed with Fueled By Ramen.

It's odd because I want all the artists I enjoy to grow and find who they are at the moment they are at, and I like her voice so much, but I fell in love with Lights at Siberia and nothing since has lived up to that album for me. I hope that I can come back around on her at some point but I'm not feeling this.

(tangent: has anyone checked out her comic? is it any good?)

I was trying to describe myself to someone

I'm finding similar growing pains. Enjoyed The Listening, loved Siberia and Little Machines. Really struggled with everything afterwards (aside of her acoustic versions, which tend to be good).
