Airing on the side of mostly not liking this. Alana and Cooper were great. It really lost me towards the end and felt bloated. In terms of the age gap, I felt like Alana’s character seemed pretty unhinged. She’s pretty specifically looking for attention and a way out of where she is in life. Gary’s giving her the exact kind of attention she’s looking for and potentially offering her a different life. Part of the point, at least to me, is that him being 15 and their relationship being entirely inappropriate meant less to her than the fact that he was an actor and could potentially be her ticket out of her parents’ house
I said this in conversation with Eva, but I'm mostly focused on the contrast being drawn between Gary and the ostensible "adults" in the film. Racist John Michael Higgins, unhinged Bradley Cooper, and the hot mess of Sean Penn playing William Holden that seems pretty relevant to her indecision between trying to hold on to her youth or grow up.
I thought I saw a tweet that said it was gonna be a science fiction film, but not sure how accurate that was.
If this is true, then this movie will be about MTG & the republican party in the same way that The Master is about "L. Ron Hubbard & Scientology"
I trust PTA (see: the comment above about The Master), no way this would a literal movie about MTG, that would probably be a bad idea.
It’s PTA; whatever we’re getting will be different and weirder than a preproduction rumored logline would indicate. Saw a bunch of people reacting as if this means PTA’s making an Adam McKay movie lol. I do think it’d be interesting if this is the moment he makes his big statement about America today — but that’s because I expect it to be way weirder and more intellectually challenging than what directors like McKay have been doing.
I’ll watch anything he does, but I’m bombarded by these fucking idiots non stop I don’t want to watch a movie about them. Happy to see it’s likely not true
Yeah I don't really want this but I saw someone say it could end up being something like Nashville which I can see working
So, I know Letterboxd can pretty much be edited by anyone but this Thomas Pynchon adaptation does fit a lot of the rumors swirling about this (except for the MTG thing) Vineland on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/EsS0
