"Always Be My Maybe" is a very solid rom-com that's unfortunately been swallowed up by the Netflix algorithm.
movie of the year. just flat out majestic. Cooper Hoffman and Alana Haim are straight up movie stars.

I would never call Magnolia his best film, but it is too unfairly maligned. People call it self-indulgent and too long, but that is its strength; this new hotshot director who hadn't even reached the age of 30 made a sprawling epic with raining frogs as the deux ex machina. Everything is so raw and so sad and so emotional; the way Macy professes his love to the bartender or how Tom Cruise finally cracks or how Julianne Moore yells at the pharmacist or how Jimmy Gator confesses his sins to his wife or John C. Reilly admits his mediocrity as a cop. Boogie Nights is so much more refined and "better", but the freewheeling nature of Magnolia makes it much more fun to go back and watch.
The Master had a really mixed response when it came out. Even a lot of otherwise reliable critics dismissed it at first.

I see HBO Max recently added Punch Drunk Love. I saw it once as a pre-teen and don't really remember it. Worth a watch?
