Who you are not is fine, reluctantly dead is good, can’t remember the rest

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

yeah Reluctantly Dead is pretty catchy too, the rest is horrid especially the first four songs

So I heard the remixed album
-So many times throughout listening to it, I'm grinning at how much better it sounds, thinking 'what were these knuckleheads thinking with that original mix?'

-what's with so many screams and background vocals made quieter? As well as the singing overall being overwhelmed by the guitars. Like in dope beat, the final scream is obscured by the guitar. I'd like vocals being louder for this album.

-they made the guitars in the Dreamers Disease chorus sound massive, I only noticed this with over the ear headphones.

-I think they removed an instrument towards the end of Virgin Dirt, can be heard around 4:02 in the original version. I still think that instead of the string instruments after the song ends, they should have had the atmospheric sounds from the beginning of Younger, so it bleeds into Younger seamlessly.

-I prefer the original opening of Pheromone Cvlt, not a fan of it's removal

-still can't understand what Jason is saying at 2:24 of 27 Club. The lyrics online say he says 'They told me if I look up they told me I would find you there.' To me it sounds like 'the told me if I'm okay, they told me I would find you there.'

Does anyone know if they ever played The Priest and Used Cars live? There are like 3 tracks of vocals at the same time. One screaming, one going 'this I know', one going 'kiss, explode'. Wonder how they would do that live. Most impressive song on the album in my opinion.

Don’t recall it being printed on the vinyl record, but in case anyone else was curious, according to Tidal the new master was done by John Naclerio and the new mix by Zach Jones.

A couple nitpicks are starting to pop up when I revisit the new mix, the main one being the very end of The Dope Beat. The feedback into the final chord doesn't hit as hard as on the original mix. It sounded like a bomb exploding on the latter.

Revisiting Fake History between listens is wild because as beloved as that one is, it feels almost timid compared to The Blackest Beautiful. On the latter, they went bigger, bolder and louder, pretty much overboard with the production layers and the amount of different vocal parts and harmonies overlapping... it's total chaos at times. Can imagine it being a nightmare to mix back in the day so it's not surprising they didn't get it right the first time lol

I've been listening to these records a lot since the reunion, and even more now that the remaster is accessible via streaming. There is something so guttural and raw about TBB that resonates with me even more now than it did when it came out, and I loved that thing when it released. Even then, it was a bit of an outlier for me genre wise, as the only scream heavy bands I was really into with any consistency were Underoath and a little Every Time I Die.

It definitely feels like lightning in a bottle. Almost like I'm not supposed to be hearing what sounds like a very real mental breakdown committed to audio. The frenetic layered vocals, haunting repetition, and little, breathy almost whisper lines that you actually have to listen in close for. The remaster opens that up even more.

  7. Finally listened to If I'm The Devil... and, I definitely don't hate it, but wow what a downgrade from TBB. It's just kind of boring to me. Probably won't go back to it much. Still really loving this new version of TBB, it's so good.

If I’m The Devil was an EP - it would be okay but still a little bit of a downgrade from the songwriting off TBB.

    Nü Romantics
    Good Mourning, America
    Who You Are Not
    Foreign Cab Rides
    Elephant

That’s it - the rest could’ve and should've been cut lol

I’ve Learned to Love Myself, Reluctantly Dead, Copper Colored Quiet, and the title track are all very good imo

Agree with this. I've always really loved the bridge in "Foreign Cab Rides", too.

Wow, this sounds so much better. Haven't listened to the original in years. The second I pressed play I was taken back to the summer of 2013.

  13. Yeah this has fully sent me on a Letlive kick, and I haven’t really listened to this band outside of the gym in like 10 years at least. Totally reinvigorated my interest in them

Got around to listening to this. Mix sounds a lot better but it doesn't make me like the album all that much more.

from what i could gather, the stage sound wasn't doing the band any favors (jason mentions it's difficult to hear anything), so they upped the energy and put on a powerful set. god damn i'm so happy this band is back for however long we got em' for.

  17. I finally pulled the trigger on Discogs for a used copy of Fake History on vinyl because this remaster has me in such a ll. mood and goddamn, they really just dropped two perfect records in a row. I wish the earlier albums were better (and also the last one) cause this band just feels like they have so much more in them.
