happy the saves the day rendition is not on here lol hype, i too generally prefer the writing on here to fake history so im happy to hear the consensus is they landed this
I don't know if it's because the production on the initial one was so baffling, but this is one of the first rereleases I've heard that really keeps the spirit of the original intact but improving the production in every way.
Can’t wait to listen. To put it bluntly I think what ultimately makes FH a better sounding album to me is the guitar tone. That thing is heavy af on that record. So hopefully the new mix on this rivals that.
God this sounds so good lol. After listening to That Fear Fever, I went back and listened to the original to confirm the absence of the vocals on the bridge, and it literally sounded like someone had thrown a heavy blanket over my speakers. It's like a whole new album now.
In the last 3ish years, I've gotten real serious about my audio equipment. It really helps me appreciate a lot of my music that was produced well, but a side effect I didn't anticipate was that I don't come back to stuff I like that wasn't produced well. This album fell totally out of rotation for that reason, but this remix puts it right back up there. Absolutely breathing new life into these songs.
I played a couple of songs and thought “yeah it sounds a little clearer in the mix” and then played empty elvis on the original and the difference is STARK. the new mix sounds killer. I hope they put out new songs. Jason said he’s ready to revisit music from this band on the OLOC pod. I’m still a little salty he went after steevis and aric in that song on the last fever record. Obviously we don’t know exactly what happened but it seemed pretty petty to be the one who remains in the successful band throwing shade.
It’s so good. I found little details in Younger and The Priest And Used Cars I don’t remember hearing in the original. Even in That Fear Fever I feel the loss of the pre-breakdown vocals are offset by the clarity in the harmonies in the chorus. The album is still a no skip listen to me and some of the best moments for me are the choruses in Empty Elvis, the slower parts in Younger and Virgin Dirt, and my favorite track overall 27 Club is just that much better. Having only listened to it on vinyl the past few months stoked to have it now on streaming and to me just confirms that I still prefer TBB to FH and it remains one of my top all time albums.
Younger is the sole track that I found to be skip worthy on the original album. Felt it was dull and didn’t do anything the rest of the album wasn’t already doing. It’s the biggest revelation of this remix. Never noticed the recurring « oooh » on the original mix, here it’s so prevalent it’s pretty much its own hook. It literally sounds like that song has finally been brought to life. Wild.
Yea this sounds great now, so awesome to have this version after so many years I still would put Fake History over this album but this now feels like an actual follow-up to Fake History's sound as opposed as what it originally was
The missing vocals on That Fear Fever were so glaring that I wondered if there was an issue with the vinyl pressing when I first listened to my copy. I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually, but it really caught me off guard. But yeah, this sounds incredible and it's really awesome that it's now fully out there.
Love this so far. I have to get used to it. It feels like there is so much space between the instruments and I’m not used to hearing them so clearly…which is weird because of all the extra woof/noise on the original.
I also don’t like how they got rid of some of the atmospheric crooning and background vocalizations in a lot of the songs…those added a lot to the feeling of a mental breakdown imo, but this version sounds so good otherwise. Wonder if they lost some of those recordings/stems to properly remix them? Not too familiar with the process
Also, i had no idea this album had a bass guitar, but some great bass tones that were hidden on the original are coming through!
