i think i want to like if i'm the devil more than i do. the full thing is a bit messy but i feel like there's some huge standouts on it. i adore good mourning america and a weak ago.
Copper Colored Quiet is one of my favorite songs in their discography. But other than that and Good Mourning I can’t remember what a single song on that album sounds like.
There are a few songs on IITD that I think are solid, but I think most of the album stinks and is forgettable
Nü Romantics, Good Mourning, Foreign Cab Rides, and Elephant are all decent tracks off Devil but the rest are forgettable at best.
Giving Devil a shot right now for the first time in ages - yeah, my thoughts have not changed. This album stinks!
Received my copy of The Blackest Beautiful earlier in the week and finally just had a chance to spin it. First, the actual variant MerchBucket is shipping is a reverse of the mock up. They show a clear vinyl with black splatter. It's actually a semi-opaque black with white splatter. I think it looks great! The remaster is a little more subtle than I was expecting, but not in a bad way. When this does eventually hit streaming, I can't imagine gravitating toward the original release. It still has that "being broadcast through a crackling speaker" like quality, but the instruments are very clearly better separated. I heard several guitar parts that I had just never picked up on before because they were so crushed in the original mix. Jason's vocals sound a tad clearer, and there are definitely some harmonies and screams that were pulled forward and emphasized slightly more. The one dramatic change, which definitely took me by surprise, was the omission of the whole stanza in "That Fear Fever" beginning with "They said they want it, they can't have it..." That's just instrumental now, leading right into the second part of the bridge. Even more odd, I noticed that part isn't really listed in the lyrics of the song in many places.
I didn't notice any massive changes in the drums in my initial listen, but I also don't necessarily have the best ear for it. The easiest way I can describe it is that the tone and recording quality of everything sounds the same, but like someone pulled the individual pieces apart and let them breathe. The original recording, to me, sounds like someone took the guitars, drums, bass, and vocals and smushed them together and then sat on it. This sounds like the same ingredients were just layered properly.
Back to having the chorus to Over Being Under stuck in my head, probably my favorite hook from them still
Special shoutout to this one as well Can't believe it wasn't on the album in the first place, it has become one of my favorites over time due to the hook
New IG story teaser says “tomorrow” and has Banshee (Ghost Fame) attached to it. Is it finally time for The Blackest Beautiful remastered on streaming?!
