This probably belongs in the "unpopular music opinion" thread but for me TBB is better than FH. I absolutely understand the production comments and agree butttt the album not only means more to me but has more individual songs that I return to. Listening right now all the way through for the first time in a while and it's a really great album.
I used to think this but I've been returning to FH a lot more than TBB recently - I feel like TBB would be the better album if it wasn't for the fact it sounds like it was recorded in swamp Another unpopular opinion - I honestly don't get the hate for Elephant, it's one of the only songs off IITD I can stomach
Feeling pretty heartbroken. Got to see them one last time at a festival called AFROPUNK in Atlanta. They played their set at 1am to maybe 10 people. Jason and I talked several times throughout the night and treated me like family. Sigh.
yep it's funny how good it still is despite the production issues. and i didn't totally get into it at the time
Are you talking about A Week Ago here, or Nu Romantics? A Week Ago has some five-stroke rolls on the hi-hat which are very cool and difficult to play. There's a lot of offbeat stuff here as the song follows its own melody/rhythm instead of following a standard song structure. Lots of space to A Week Ago and it is not easy to play in space, especially when you're playing offbeat stuff and utilizing a handful of different parts of the kit while doing so. It's a cool song that I've come to appreciate over time.
I meant a Weak Ago, the drumming in the verses is actually good and that's like the second best song on the record.
Love Night Verses since they were The Sound Archives but Vanishling Light (while good overall) was a disappointing follow up to the STELLAR Lift Your Existence. I think they're recording a new record though! They're definitely writing. As far as Letlive. goes, It seems like the guys were butting heads and that's way they didn't even wanna book a farewell tour which is a shame. I would have absolutely gone and I would be shocked if the tour wasn't successful as hell.
It's not even that I don't like it. I don't like Nu Romantics, Who You are Not, and most of the songs on the first 2/3. I hate those last four songs. Haha
Yeah, I started with The Blackest Beautiful and have more of a connection with it, but I agree with this. It's a very important record for me. Pretty bummed that both them & Vanna broke up on the same day. I got into them around the same time & both bands had such a great connection with their fans when I saw them live. Them & letlive's music helped me get through some pretty shitty times in the last couple of years so both of them calling it quits is a real drag. letlive story: I took a Greyhound to see them play with The Wonder Years in Richmond last year & there was a shooting at the bus station. It happened after I got into town but the station was closed for the entire day/night and my phone died so I was kind of stranded. I talked to Jason for like a half hour after the show he got me a ride to the Amtrak station for the night so I could get back to Baltimore. He is awesome.
Vanna didn't have a classic record in them imo but they were such a consistent band, even when they started to lose members each record cycle. I will miss them dearly, and wish I would've seen them live.
I really liked their last two albums & their shows were always great. I kind of knew they were breaking up or going on hiatus soon, though. Davey can barely talk anymore, let alone sing.
