The Night Verses albums are objectively monsters, I was just never a huge fan of their sound. That first EP got me so excited for a new rock band with that sound, but then they went more subversive and progressive, that it was hard for me to get into it (and I listened to both albums 5+ times over the course of 6 months....never clicked)
I sort of feel that Night Verses sound better in theory than in practice. Mind you, I probably haven't listened to them enough.
It's on FB too. Damn, this band meant a lot to me a few years ago and Jason is such a stand up guy. Hope Jason continues to stay musically active in some way RIP
Loved Fake History and TBB. Last album was just bad, in my opinion. Jason has a killer voice/energy, though, and they're one of the best live bands I've ever seen. Really hoping he, at the very least, keeps doing cool stuff.
Maybe this is too cynical, but: acquire godly drummer, subdue him, of course you're going to get a "divergence of views"
Fuck. I knew it was coming but I was hoping for one last tour. I was homeless/broke during their last headliner & couldn't see them. :\
yeah. i try not to torture myself but it's crazy to think what they could've put out if jean stayed in the band and they decided to ramp up the extreme
Sounds like you're back on your feet at least, good on you! Yeah I mean if I was being honest... *cough* idon'tthinkjeffprovedhimselftobeagoodguitaristatallandjeancarriedthemcompletelysothat'sgottabepartofit
oh yeah. jeff was clearly a rhythm guitarist, none of the stuff on IITD was remotely interesting. that guy they had on tour in 2015, kenji chan seemed to have a lot of interesting takes on the tracks live. he really did a lot with the leads, letting them be more atmospheric and i was bummed he wasn't on the record
I saw them a couple times when Kenji was touring with them (I think he did The Wonder Years tour?). His tone was completely different from Jean & their other guitarists but I liked what he added. Definitely improvised a lot on the newer songs. Ha yeah, it was a bad 2-3 months.
I also thought that guy was pretty promising. IITD would be more listenable with another guitar track haha
I mean, you have no idea if Loniel had any of the creative differences or not, so creating strife where there may not be any is a weird look. You'd be surprised how many drummers are "better" than they may seem but hold themselves back in a group setting because part of being a musician and being good at your instrument is knowing when to hold back and when to let loose.
