When I first heard "Good Mourning" I got really excited at the intro... went downhill very quickly from there Also I hope that tour rumour isn't true, they're not allowed to end on that mess of an album nonono
I could see that. If I'm The Devil was terrible as hell... would love for them to bounce back with a great record instead though!
Good Morning America and Who You Are Not are probably the only two tracks I liked. Foreign Cab Rides is also good but that's it.
As awful as IITD, I thought it was pretty well-liked overall, and was under the assumption it sold well due to the amount of people I say posting pictures of the CD on social media. Any sales-nerds know if this is true?
Everyone I know in person HATED it, or only heard of it because the friends that hated it gave them their copies of the album, and were therefore less disappointed since they didn't know older ll.
Yeah that's interesting. Probably why sales would be more indicative of what the overall reception was because I, like you, saw a lot of praise for it on social media. I remember being confused by that because it was probably my biggest disappointment in a couple of years.
I see a lot of people wearing their merch at my university, and I really did think they'd get more places with this album. But I guess it didn't have any single potential really so that probably held it back.
letlive was kind of a weird situation since the attitude towards them before was uniformly positive i think, so i think you had a lot of people wonder "is it just me that doesn't like this?" i mean, the last headliner tour they did in the US did terribly right?
Did it really? That's such a bummer to hear. That record sucked thoroughly but no band like them deserves a bad tour.
Would definitely be a bummer to see them go but it makes sense. Last album and tour did terrible and lost them a ton of fans it seems.
I'm really vocal about how much I don't like that album, but I still rep my letlive. shirt all the time and consider myself a big fan. I just wanted to hear Loniel tear it up, but there's nothing going on drum-wise.
Yeah that was what really bummed me out about Devil. Loniel's first record with the band and I expected something epic but it was so.... bland. Not his fault though. It's the band's fault for writing lackluster music for the record. I'm listening to Devil now and even the best songs (Nu Romantics for example) on the record still pale in comparison to almost any song off the last two records.
The back half of that track is such an awkward and halfhearted attempt at being epic. So sad. Record is so underwritten it hurts. No good bass lines either, which we know the bassist can write.
Not to sidetrack this discussion too much, but do any of you guys know where I could find the "alternate versions" (I forget what they're called) for the handful of tracks they re-did off of The Blackest Beautiful? I've heard they're way better produced but I don't think I ever actually listened to them, and I'm curious if I'd be able to tell the difference since I usually don't have much of an ear for production.
