Maybe I'll give the album another chance. I think I only made it all the way through twice which, considering I loved this band, isn't a good sign. Maybe it's better I completely forgot about it.
I did that a month after it was released and it felt like the equivalent of letting out a long, exasperated sigh
The worst thing is there are moments of promise. It's not outright shit in any sense. You're just waiting for something to happen and it doesn't really materialise. And then you go and listen to Fake History instead.
I really do think Jean leaving the band really hurt the music. His stuff was never flashy, but it was always well constructed and great.
Listening to Fake History for the first time in a while. Forgot what a thrill it all is, remembered why I got that tattoo lol
I remember iTunes accidentally leaked a minute and a half clip of Banshee like 2 months before it came out because it was on the Warped Compilation and they put the preview clips up for some reason. I listened to that clip so many goddamn times
I didn't dislike the new album like some here; I can respect the shift in direction and I like a majority of the album. Having said that, Fake History is a modern classic and I am disappointed in the production of TBB. I would have listened to TBB so many more times had the production been that of FH--I don't even know what they were thinking and the songs suffered because of it.
Apparently it was because their then-fanbase said FH was overproduced so they decided they should have it sound like it was playing out of a boombox or some shit for "an organic and authentic sound", which is just the single most frustrating reason for having bad production ever. If not for some kids whinging and being like "U SOLD OUT WITH THIS OVERPORDUCE CRAPP" then we would've had an all around incredible album in our hands right now (See reference: the Charles Macak demos) FH production wasn't even that good - I didn't know they had two guitars for the longest time, but compared to TBB it sounds heavensent
I gave the new record a listen again today to see if it was any better to me after some time, and it's not really. The title track and Foreign Cab Rides are choice. But jesus, Who You Are Not is unspeakably bad.
FCR still stands as a great track. Title track just sounds like bland trash to me. No character or charisma in that song at all.
Yeah I still never really came around to Devil overall. I do enjoy more than a few songs, Good Mourning, A Weak Ago, Foreign Cab Rides, and I honestly love the title track
Yeah, listening to those Charles Macak demos is a lesson in frustration. I just can't--It's too good and I know I'll never have that with TBB as it is.
I switched out the Charles macak songs with the ones on the album. It's weird when I listen all the way through but damn do they sound great..
Anyone know what the story is with the blackest beautiful renditions project? Was it just scrapped in the end?
I assumed it was just too difficult to schedule the guest vocalists to record with them, and eventually they just started writing the new album and didn't have the time for it. Doubtful we get anything else from the project which sucks
Yeah. I assumed we wouldn't be getting anything else from it now. That does suck. I'm seeing them live tonight in Glasgow. They're the support for pierce the veil though. I'm only going to see Letlive and creeper, not a fan of PTV to be honest
