Keep You is one of the best albums to ever come out of this ~~~~~ap scene~~~~ The Lack Long After is one of my favourite albums and I hold it right up there with Keep You.
The Pianos comparison doesn't work for me because their old stuff, while heavy, was emotionally weighty and incredibly powerful regardless. That didn't change with Keep You; they cut the heavy parts but made an equally emotionally resonant album and it delivered. If I'm The Devil falls flat because it strips out the core of *why* I listen to letlive., which is that seamless mix of heavy with melodic and high energy.
The whole trilogy of albums from them is just wonderful. And then there's also hiding, which you know, is one the best songs that I've ever listened to.
Pianos is miles better than this band ever was. The Lack Long After and Keep You are stunningly crushing albums.
Not sure if I'd say pianos is miles better than ANYTHING letlive has done. That's not giving fake history the credit it deserves. They're also very different bands so the comparison seems pointless.
That's fair. My comment does seem to give Glad History less credit than it really deserves. It's a great album, but everything since then...
Man, guess I'll need to check out Keep You again. I thought it was boring when it came out. Also, this new album is enjoyable. Glad they went for something different but still maintained "them"
Yeah fair enough, I listened to some alternate versions of a couple tbb songs (some dude posted on Reddit) that were apparently made when they were deciding on their producer for the album. They were pretty damn good and it was definitely a "what could have been" moment. Still enjoy tbb though.
Just to be clear I do applaud this album for switching things up. There are a couple great moments throughout.
the only great moment ive found is "ive learned to let myself" unfortunately. but that song is massive. absolutely great lyrics on it too. this part in particular i like a lot And now my lover is screaming “Jason, can you love me the way you never even acted like you did?” You see the problem I’m seeing with being so damn empty Is the irony when you’re completely full of shit When your mouth keeps running to a dangerous place Can you really call it lost if you don’t want to be saved? When it rains, it’s pouring on me
there were a few people earlier in either this thread or the album anouncement one where people were comparing it to Keep You and that was a shock to me to hear some people thought it was overhyped.
I don't really know too much about Pianos Become the Teeth, but the new letlive. is really good regardless lol. I listened to Keep You when it came out and dug it though.
Agreed that this is good. I'm a little surprised by the amount of negativity. I wasn't anticipating this much but it's crept up on me. It doesn't have that raw fire and energy that TBB and FH had but it replaces that with some pretty solid pop parts. I think it's really catchy and when you combine that with solid lyricism it makes for something that I'm fond of.
Fake History is amazing, The Blackest Beautiful is also great despite its muddled production that hurt the songs, but Devil is so... uninteresting. "A Weak Ago" sounds like a song they could have wrote in their sleep, "Foreign Cab Rides" "Reluctantly Dead" and the title track is all boring to me. It's obvious the band wanted to reach a wider audience so they made a record for that. I can't hate on them for it but I can say if I think it's bad. Their bass lines and drums are usually badass but sound so... boring and safe here. I will say I loved "Good Morning America" when I first heard it. That song shows what this album could have been. These guys have amazing talent and I also really like "Who You Are Not" as well. I don't just want the band to only write heavy jams, I just want them to write interesting songs.I am a huge fan and I am so damn let down by this record. At least it's better than OK by The Fall of Troy. That album... Lol. Jeez.
