Really wish this was coming to Toronto, but I knew it wouldn’t be. I don’t think BFS are allowed in the country still lol
If I’m remembering correctly, BFS haven’t played in Canada since like 2005 or something. I remember one of the guys in the band (I wanna say Chris) saying they weren’t allowed in because of some silly weed possession charge or something along those lines
I was just thinking how many great songs LTJ recorded during the Anthem sessions, including all the B is for B-Sides songs and decided to make my ultimate Antgem single disc record. Here’s the track list: 01. Short Fuse Burning 02. Sleep it Off 03. the Ghost of You and Me 04. National Anthem 05. Science of Selling Yourself Short 06. Plastic Cup Politics 07. Goodbye in Gasoline 08. Welcome to the New South 09. Motown Never Sounded So Good 10. Portrait of a Cigarette Smoker 11. Best Wishes to your Black Lings 12. ASAOK 13. Look What Happened 14. The Brightest Bulb has Burned Out/Screws Has anyone done this before? I’m curious to see other peoples track lists.
Anthem is a really strong record, Rob Cavallo makes every song pop in exactly the right ways, there's not as much interference on which songs can and can't have horns like on In With The Out Crowd, and Brightest Bulb / Screws Fall Out is an amazing closer. However it is now my duty to remind you that Less Than Jake, for some inexplicable reason, did a version of Brightest Bulb with Billy Bragg of all people EDIT: oh, I'm sure this is a very cold take, but the Borders and Boundaries version of Look What Happened is better
Less Than Jake have written low-key exceptional closers since Hello Rockview. Starting with that record, the last 1-2 tracks on each full-length are total bangers right up to the last one with the 1-2 punch of "Bill" and "So Much Less." As far as the Billy Bragg cover goes, I'm not sure "inexplicable" is the term that I would use. Haha. I know Vinnie and Chris are both pretty huge fans and at the time both artists were signed to labels under the Warner Music banner... Still, it definitely caught me off-guard with how great it sounded.
I’d add Lockdown to the great closers and billy bragg collab made perfect sense to me? Buncha pop punk bands were covering A New England at that time
P.S. Shock the World is on my list of songs I'd love to see them play live that they almost certainly won't
That version of "Brightest Bulb" with Billy Bragg might have been the first LTJ song I heard and I still think it's superior the album version.
Fingers crossed! The last time I saw them was a Hello Rockview show and it looks like Slam Dunk next year will be the same. But it's such a good closer. Oh there's another lukewarm take, the live version of Rest of My Life with the horns is better than the studio version.
Looks like pre orders for a new pressing of “In With the Out Crowd” on Vinyl today. Only 2500 available. https://realgonemusic.com/products/less-than-jake-in-with-the-out-crowd-lp
We have our first kid on the way and I have been building out a playlist of lullaby songs from Twinkle Twinkle Rockstar and Rockabye Baby. Also stumbled onto Sparrow Sleeps, which covers pop punk & emo. They finally just put out their Less Than Jake edition:
A deluxe, 2xLP version of Hello Rockview is currently being sold on their tour, 2nd LP with a bunch of rarities: Less Than Jake - Hello Rockview
