has anyone picked up the great wave set? my wife and i really want it but we still have our the office set that we haven't put together yet.
Here's the Winter Village I built and displayed over the holidays. My niece and nephews absolutely love checking it out. The train actually runs through the tunnel. Built MILS plates this year which was a lot of work. This is my third year making one and it's come a long way. Want to get the mountain along the back side but just didn't have enough pieces this year. Working on getting together the final sets in the series I'm missing and working on some MOCS. Would like to display it publicly eventually.
agreed. i didn't comment on it in my post, but i like that they included a couple different stickers for that toy/pen note thing Joey and Chandler have on the back of the door. Can't recall offhand if the set came with additional pieces for each of the signs or if you just had to pick a favorite but enjoyed they had the option. and also like that the creators / designers picked, for some of the characters, iconic outfits for them like Ross with his leather pants (even comes with a jar of lotion or the baby powder lol) and Joey wearing all of Chandler's clothes.
holy shit! are you / did you take it apart and pack it up or are you leaving it up for awhile yet? and if you did take it apart, did you make note of how you built it for next year or would you just wing it or try to create it from the pictures you have?
i have two dreams -- one is for a that 70's show lego set that is eric's basement. and the other is a community lego set that is the study room.
Viking Ship and the Midgard Serpent (31132) Creator 3-in-1 set 1,192 pieces 4 minifigures, 1 animal After completing the Friends set I was jonesing for something to build so took a quick trip to Wal-Mart and picked up this set. Ships always seem fun to build and the idea of getting 3 sets to build seemed like good value. Was not expecting so many little details that really adds life to the set - fish, fire, coffee cups. All add levels to it and make it seem not so static and flat. My first experience with building animals and really enjoyed that you have to build these, it's not just a completed piece already so that is adorable and fun. Set is very much set up to be displayed one way or at one main angle. Little deflating that the flag at the top, is only "one-sided" and that the back of the flag is the same. The minifigures are great. Of course they, they're vikings! The serpent is neat, colorful and has a lot of movement, but nothing special. Overall build was fun, some of the side pieces on the ship before the shields or whatever is added came off awkwardly / hard to keep on but that may have just been me applying too much pressure on one end while trying to snap into place. Eventually got it though. Not sure if I will ever take apart and actually build the other two options. At the very least may build the shack/cabin once I'm done with the new A-Frame Cabin so it has a buddy but we'll see. I really like the ship lol.
Holy shit, a month away. And so many figurines! Not stoked on dropping $500 after dropping uh, well, a lot the last few weeks but oh well lol I know I’m gonna Ironically enough watched Fellowship last night as I started building the treehouse.
Wow, if only I had $500 I didn't need. That looks like an incredible set! Assuming Rings of Power continues through its planned 5 seasons, hopefully we'll see some renewed Lord of the Rings and Hobbit sets like they've done with Harry Potter over time.
They rebuilt the first 6 star wars films, with the inclusions of the sequel trilogy, from scratch with new gameplay mechanics such as an over the shoulder angle while shooting guns, semi-open world maps for areas, etc.
I feel like my max I can spend on a Lego without feeling guilty is like 120. I really want that Bowser and Rivendell looks great but I’m priced out :(
oh my god, I was moving my table and the treehouse (4 bags in) fell off and broke apart. Not super bad, most held together really well but now I gotta reverse engineer this back together and I swear i somehow lost a bunch of pieces lol I can’t find them anywhere and now im wondering if I even built it right or missed some pieces on the original build lol
It comes out for a couple months and then gets packed away. I stored a lot of it put together this year but a lot of it will be rebuilt because of how much I'm still working on the layout. I built it on MILS (Modular Integrated Landscaping System) plates this year which snap together so it all comes apart and together easily. Basically spent this year building the plates. I can store each plate with all the stuff on it and build them separately. I can also run wiring for lights/etc. underneath and do some cool things with landscaping/layout, like the frozen pond with fish under the surface. It also makes moving it easier and I'd like to eventually have it displayed at BrickFair or something. Here's 4 plates snapped together. Each one is built on a baseplate. This is the system I use:
Surfer Beach House (31118) Creator 3-in-1 set 564 pieces 2 minifigures, 4 animals This was a fun build and I love the vibe and the bright colors. Really appealed to me that at any angle or viewing point it looks like you're looking at it head on or the right way. And you can leave it open as it all closes together or can open partially or fully depending on preference. This is something I have to go back and look at the instructions for on the Downtown Noodle Shop because that one does not have the same ability but maybe I build it wrong lol The dolphin and the turtles are so fucking cute lmao Really had a hard time deciding which of the 3 I wanted to build first and decided to go with the beach house. if money and space was no issue i would consider just buying two more sets so i could have all 3 up at the same time. In a good way, this felt like more than 560 pieces and enjoy that the details inside are there. Quickly learning that I really dig houses or structures in general vs some of the other Lego options which will be shared over the next few days.
Boba Fett's Throne Room (75326) Star Wars 732 pieces 7 minifigures Technically my second Star Wars set as I bought the $10 Boba Fett ship set on a whim with some smaller $10 sets and I'll share that set a different day. I find it humorous that I would buy a Star Wars set as I am not a huge fan of the franchise. I've seen all 9 main films and 1 or 2 of the other films but honestly can only name a handful of characters. Hell, the only character I know in this set is Boba Fett! For whatever reason, Boba Fett has always been my favorite Star Wars character and weirdly that seems to be the case with a lot of people from what I have read lately. But! A lot of the sets are well detailed and look like fun builds so I decided to pick this up. This set was a fun build and of course put together while watching one of the films. I think this set is based on something from The Mandalorian TV show? No idea, haven't seen that yet, so every part of this set was something new which was interesting, but also not being connected to the universe didn't really take away from the build but none of the details had any impact on me since I don't know what this set is from and have no emotion connected to it. In the picture above is one of my quirky personal favorite things in sets that you can't see from the front / front box art - look at that red snake! No idea why it's there and why it's in the back, so those things are always fun to me. The set opens in the back on a hinge. Was a little disappointed that the ceiling of the set doesn't open up, those bars are "locked" into place and at first I thought that would be something that could contain movement in the set but it does not. The sides of the set are also on hinges and can turn in as seen in the image above. Doesn't fold all the way and there are moving parts of the display. The main chair in front has a lever that can launch the character sitting there out and the wall on the tower structure to the right can move up and down and the steps also move to throw a character off. The minifigures are very detailed and some contain some comically large guns / weapons. I also was shocked to find out that Boba Fett is apparently just a basic looking white dude??? I don't know when they first revealed this (whether movie or show or who knows what) but I chuckled to myself learning this from, of all things, a Lego set.
Treehouse (21318) 3,036 pieces 4 minifigurines Post 1 of 2 My second biggest build to date, behind the Home Alone set, but easily more challenging than that set. Not sure if I would say this was more enjoyable than the Home Alone set, they are probably tied for 1st place. This set was a little more stress inducing than that set and any other one I've built yet. Certain parts, like the skinny side sections of the base of the tree and getting each room to connect to the branches was frustrating and I may eventually take this apart and rebuild it because i have A LOT of extra pieces left over which seems a lot more than usual / what I should have. Picture below is of the skinny parts mentioned above. Imagine 4 wide pieces that make a box but don't connect, and then you have these tiny 1 x 10ish pieces that snap into place in 3 locations and what the piece snaps on to moves so just because you have one connected does NOT mean they all do. Alllllllllllll of the "extras". Some pictures of the rooms before the roofs were added to show the tremendous detail. And pretty sure one of the rooms has a shower and a toilet! Bunkbeds! A very cool and smart choice on this set was to have the roof of each room simply lay in place and not actually be snapped into place, which would make it almost impossible to actually play with for kids since the branches above would get in the way. You can move the branches and simply lift off each roof to access the inside. Some may think that the rooms would be the fun part of the build and that maybe the trunk or the base would be boring, but they definitely were enjoyable. There is one oddity, hidden treasure in the base that caught my attention and will be a fun find if I ever disassemble since there's no indication of it anywhere. The inclusion of the stream was a nice touch and at first I was a bit baffled by the clear pieces ALL being 1x2 bricks so you have like 60 of them. But I realized while building that if they would have had these as longer pieces it would take away the "flow" or look of movement that the smaller pieces give. Going back to my "I likely missed some pieces" comment, there are some gaps on the branches that bug me and the trunk doesn't actually connect to the base, at least not all of the pieces, which may be correct, not sure. I did drop this from over 4 feet in the air when I had just the base and the trunk build and it held together shockingly well so that makes me pause if I did miss steps since it held together so damn well. Have also learned that may I'm colorblind? The square piece below is the same piece, but to me it looks light brown on the left and gray on the right, but there was only one gray piece this shape to use.
Treehouse (21318) 3,036 pieces 4 minifigurines Post 2 of 2 I also enjoyed this helpful visual from the instructions since it gets tricky when putting pieces together when looking at the bottom of a piece. The set also comes with orange/red autumn leaves which is an awesome inclusion, but not sure if I've ever actually take the time to put them together and swap them out because there were a lot of steps to the foliage and it wasn't the most enjoyable time. Getting the green pieces to connect the bigger pieces together required so much force I do not look forward to trying that again lol Each of the rooms have a feel of its own and the color coding for the roof interior was a great touch to immediately know which roof goes with what room (green, tan, red) One nitpick I have is getting bigger pieces that could have been part of the build. About half the steps you build, but this big section is all once piece out of the box. And for as expensive as this set is, I don't think having another 50 pieces or so would have required a price change but not sure how all of that is decided and maybe there was a stability issue that made them require this. I laughed SO fucking hard when I put the top of the base of the tree on. Holy shit, this set is for 16+? Putting this on immediately makes this NC-17 for sure Such a great build, would recommend to everyone. Even the hoist thing really works! Complete! A bit surprised there were no animals included with the set, will have to add some to it from other sets.
