I did find interesting that Cronin had no real interest at first in making this film but he used it to process the death of his mother. I have no idea how that works in practice, but I'm glad it helped him work through his grief.
I also kind of wish the demon spoke in Egyptian instead of the usual "it's a demon and all demons talk like a kid learning curse words for the first time". I guess I'm not sure if this film was going for comedy with that or what. The grandma death scene definitely had some comedic tones in how over the top it was. I mean, she fucking gets flipped out a window onto the car and then ripped apart by coyotes. And even then the film wasn't done with her. That grandma went on a journey. Now kind of wondering if maybe Cronin hated his mom.
This is by no means the worst horror film I have seen this year, but compared to Cronin's prior two films, this was a let down.
The running time is the barrier for me. I’ll watch a dumb, fun movie like “Primate” because it’s a quick 90 minutes. 2+ hours is insanity.
Yeah the guy seated two chairs down from me was saying stuff like this out loud throughout the movie to no one in particular lol
It is absolutely too long but doesn't really feel too long, if that makes sense. At least for me anyway. This movie was just such a confusing mix of ideas. Like it really seemed like Cronin was setting up for an Evil Dead sequel but then pivoted to the Mummy story last minute. It also feels more like an exorcism/possession movie than anything else. The sister's line in the classroom felt straight out of a derivative exorcism movie from years ago. Really cool that everything was done practically here though, love that obviously.
Made me laugh when the doctor said not to make any loud noises, and then instead of carrying Katie up the stairs, they hit that wheelchair on every single step.
obvi you never know you're in a horror movie until a demon is gnawing on your femur but this is like ... so avoidable? lol
I watch this yesterday afternoon and it was fine, wasn't scary but May Calamawy needs to be in more stuff!
