Maluma is huge. He's on tour rn and sold out Madison Square Garden. Believe he sold out The Forum too.
I'm currently listening to Shakira's discography for the first time in its entirely, and needless to say that I'm very surprised by its diversity. As someone who was only familiar with her singles, it has been a pleasure to realize that they're not really representative of her albums. I was stunned to hear all of these singer/songwriter-y songs on her early albums. Those are not too far off what Alanis Morrissette was doing in the late 90's, and I never thought I'd type that sentence when talking about Shakira. Can't wait to get a copy of that MTV Unplugged CD/DVD.
Her discog is nearly impeccable tbh. She's v underrated in her songwriting and experimentation for sure. I think in the US at least people just kinda pay attn to her laundry service hits and hips don't lie and she def doesn't get the respect she deserves for her talent as a whole
It is, but she def has a lot more out there than ppl give her credit for! Well I feel like Latinos appreciate her and her tour looks like it's doing rly well tho I wouldn't know completely cause sis isn't coming to my area smh
Yeah I mean she is one of those artists that had crossover hits in a time when Latin music wasn’t a mainstream genre so too many people reduced her down to those songs. It happened to several people at that time, e.g. Thalia and Aventura. It’s satisfying to see her doing so well now.
Can it be Latin music if the person was born in America? If so, I got a first spin of this recently and loved it:
I think it of course can still be latin music cause there's lots of American Latino artists doing their thing and making music inspired by their family and culture!
I'm now thinking of Sophie Ellis-Bextor whose last album Familia was very latin-inspired. I recommend it strongly.
Get to Know Rosalía, the Spanish Singer Giving Flamenco’s Age-Old Sound a Bracingly Modern Twist | Pitchfork I have not yet listened but the description caught my interest.
I've read that piece and certainly it sounds great. Can't wait to check it out. Things are happening in Spain. The Bad Gyal album is still one of my favourite albums of the year.
