Nocturnal Animals had some great performances but that's really the only nice thing I have to say about it. It was so petty and cruel that I didn't enjoy it.
Did someone in here say The Lobster is sad? I don't feel like being sad atm. But it looks funny and interesting.
I'm late but I finally saw Boyhood and oh my god what an outstanding film both in procedure and in substance. Watching the characters grow with the actors is fascinating.
Just watched Breathless, first Godard I've seen. Would it be at all apt to compare it to Pulp Fiction? Because stylistically it very much reminded me of it.
Yeah Zodiac is a much better movie, it better showcases Fincher's meticulous filmmaking, style, and ambiguity imo
I was very bored when I first watched Zodiac but that was like 10 years ago now and I don't think I was paying that much attention so I want to rewatch it.
lots of people (even around here) prefer The Social Network. it's a fine film, but I have always preferred Zodiac.
Zodiac feels more Fincher-y (and therefore may be "objectively" better), but I think I still like The Social Network more.
For some reason Zodiac doesn't seem to click with me like it does for most people. It's a very good movie, but for me it falls short of the near-perfection that is his Social Network-Dragon Tattoo-Gone Girl string of films. Stylistically I think Zodiac is lacking something that his recent films have, though I'm not quite sure what that is. Ross & Reznor's score, perhaps?
Dragon Tattoo and Gone Girl are excellently made, but also don't have any recognizable humanity in them, which is why TSN towers over them for me. Zukerberg is a dick, but you feel like there's a human reason behind the way he acts. You sympathize a little even as you want to punch him.
there's a nice little narrative about privilege and American academia/fraternity in The Social Network too. Tattoo felt OK but insignificant. GG felt beyond silly.
