Part of me is tempted to say Pressburger was the genius, but that's mostly because I just hate Peeping Tom.
It's like Psycho without any of the style or intrigue. Haha Meanwhile, The Red Shoes, A Matter of Life and Death and Black Narcissus are awesome. To keep this opinion uncomplicated, I am ignoring the fact that The Thief of Bagdad is a blast
it's better than Psycho imo, at least in the sense that it's not possible to watch Psycho without knowing exactly what's going down at this point in film history. meanwhile, it's such a freaky metaphor for cinema as voyeurism and does a great job of spooling you up.
Hey, I just rewatched this recently too, and I thought it held up. A lot of good gags. As much as I like Steve Martin, though, I thought he was pretty bad here. It was as if he was mocking Mike Meyers the whole time. Like, he read the script, and was like, "Who the hell would play this character, Mike Meyers?" And then he proceeded to jokingly do the whole part in an exaggeration of the Mike Meyers thing, and afterward he was like, "Wait, were you guys filming that?" and Joe Dante was like, "Nah dude, we totally weren't filming, don't worry about it..." The movie was enjoyable though. How do you think it compares to Space Jam?
I think it's better than Space Jam. Much more true to the characters and style of humor of the real Looney Tunes shorts. And I liked Martin. That level of over the top absurdity was clearly intentional and cartoonish. I honestly just found it boring. I get why people like it, and have read arguments in its favor, but it didn't hit me the same way. Only because I haven't seen it yet. I expect I'll like it. Also need to see I Know Where I'm Going!, 49th Parallel, One of Our Aircraft Is Missing and The Tales of Hoffmann.
Checked out Hacksaw Ridge and really dug it. The only issues I had were somewhat minor - the CGI blood splatter from a gunshot and the fact that Garfield was seemingly aware of the cameras and played to them in a few scenes. Hard to explain, but you could tell he was acting, if that makes sense.
I have known about the racist caricature in Breakfast at Tiffany's, but I did not expect it to hit so hard within the first four minutes. Even Birth of a Nation lets you have a little breathing room first.
Saw the Breakfast Club for the first time in a decade or so, still holds up despite its cheesiness but it is def a movie of its time. Can't wait to see the remake Hollywood will attempt at some point fail terribly.
Tombstone - 4/10 Really odd (bad) pacing throughout this movie. It couldn't decide what type of movie it wanted to be, and in the end, it felt flat...even for a 90s movie. Not silly enough to be popcorn fun, not good enough to be 'good' or interesting, and just... it's long too.
Breakfast Club remake would have to get rid of the makeover scene, the one dark spot in a great movie
I was awfully disappointed when I got to high school and learned after-school detention is and was never a thing, let alone Saturday detention. Movie high school seems so cool. If you could attend the high school of any movie, what high school would you attend?
wait, what do you mean? your school had NO detention whatsoever? my high school had saturday's for a while but once i got there they decided 'ehh fuck it, lets just do it friday afternoons'. That was the punishment... "fridays". I mean i get it. Teachers are like 'fuck that noise...i dont want to come in saturday mornings'
Nope, I came out of high school sure that detention was just a myth. I am now reconsidering. I went to school in a small town though. I always longed to go to one of those teen movie schools with a lighted football field and cliques hanging around on the benches outside and a packed cafeteria. I really think I missed out
i'm more interested in the fact that you thought detention never existed haha it does...it did.... my question was whether high schools still have saturdays anywhere.
What the fuck, uh, I got detention all the time. It was terrible and very real. There was this one teacher, Mr. Sugimora, and he would make us stare at this fucking dot on the whiteboard and if he caught us looking away our time would be elongated or something like that
I did believe it existed! Then I got to high school and by the end of tenth grade I was brainwashed to think it was just a plot device in television and shit
I was a goody two shoes so no clue if there was detention And for best movie High School either Mean Girls or Clueless
