I definitely saw the story as more of a vehicle for jokes than anything, with a bit of substance included in the third act. If you're not really into the humor, it's tough to get into. Like, I appreciated the Deadpool movie, but I personally didn't find a lot of it funny, so I wasn't as into as everybody else. Just looking at the animated world of the Lego Movie was enough not to bore me though, but it certainly helped that a lot of the jokes landed

I remember several years ago, when Transformers 2 was coming out, a critic I listened to who considered himself a fan of Michael Bay said, "Watching this movie was like seeing an exaggeration of what people say when they complain about Michael Bay films. And I hate it!"

As a long-time Kevin Smith devotee, I have to say - watching Yoga Hosers was like seeing an exaggeration of what people hate when they say they don't like Kevin Smith films. And it's painful.

Huge Kev Smith fan, and I feel the same way. Even Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is a little too goofy for my tastes, but at least that has charm (and Mewes). Yoga Hosers presents itself as if it isn't self aware and it's really bothersome

Agreed about DP. I enjoyed it but didn't think it was "OMG AMAZING!" As the general consensus seems to be haha.

Yeah I think the humor is a lot of what made me like Lego at all I just didn't feel like it hit me well. Plus I think I may have had large expectations going in which hindered my enjoyment as I said previously. Oh well, there's still plenty of movies out there for me.

All that arguing over the new Ghostbusters and it is just a completely okay and forgettable movie. What a weird phenomenon we have seen, from Mad Max to Star Wars, where people get mad and yell about women in movies that vary so wildly in quality.

Kiki's Delivery Service - 7.5/10. My first Ghibli film. Loved immersing myself in this world. Wish it had been a bit more thematic, but there was also a nice charm to how quickly the story wrapped up. It was a lot more grounded than I expected it to be, too, and I really liked that.

    Your first Ghibli movie?!

I mean, any Ghibli is worthwhile, but you gotta get on Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke stat!

I figured I wouldn't start with the heavy hitters! You think I should dive right in?

    Why not, haha!

Although if you're looking for some of the more 'deep cut' entries, Castle in the Sky and Whisper of the Heart are a couple personal favorites.

The Force Awakens - Watched for the second time. You know what? As much as I love the Star Wars franchise, TFA was more of a movie full of great moments, rather than a great movie as a whole. I found myself bored through most of it. That wasn't the case during my first viewing, which was in theaters.

Whisper of the Heart - 9/10: This is what I wanted from Kiki's Devlivery Service. It felt like the story came first here. There was a natural progression throughout the whole thing and it really took its time to be a fully realized film.

Finally watched Ghostbusters and I gotta say, I think it got a bad rap for the most part.

The feminist rhetoric wasn't there, but for some reason people complained of this. The male characters were stupid, though, and it was annoying.

I grew up watching Ghostbusters and the cartoon, and it is one of my favorite comedies. I really wish this was a sequel instead of a reboot, so that way the cameos would have at least made sense. Then again I understand why they didn't go this route since the "passing of the torch" plot would have probably been overshadowed by the original ghostbusters returning to their roles.

There was no issue with the actresses, but I didn't really buy into McKinnin's character. She was more of a caricature rather than a real life scientist, at least IMO. McCarthy is normally hit or miss with me, but she played the straight person here, so she was reigned in. I was worried about Leslie's character since in the trailer, she's shown to be a loud-mouth. But it wasn't too frequent. I had no problems with Wiig, because she's damn near perfect but that's another story.

I think the issue was with the story itself. The ending could have been something straight out of a recent Marvel movie. Ghostbusters 2 had a similar ending (city-wide destruction), but with Marvel being more relevant, people would compare to that.

Cell - 2.5/10: I almost wish I hadn't read the book, because I'm unsure if it's fair to compare a movie to the source material. Like, a movie shouldn't be presented to the audience with the assumption that the audience has read the book, right? But this movie needs that foundation in order for the few story beats included to even make sense. It's like the filmmakers read the book for the first time and adapted it as they went along, not thinking about the grand scheme of anything (and Stephen King has a screenwriting credit here, so I don't know what the hell that's all about). And what they did include in the film is presented in such a bland and boring way. It's not an offensively bad film, but there's not much there to like.

my worst film experience in years was watching Suicide Squad on mute on an 11 hour international flight. I know it's a cartoon but the overacting in this movie is beyond embarassing to watch as an adult.

In that scenario, I would rather watch the flight path and count down the miles.

It never really made sense to me that people actually walk out of movies at the theater (before the movie is over, I mean). Do they then try to get their money back because they haven't liked what they've seen so far? That is wild

You don't have to try and get your money back. If a movie is two and a half hours long and you have been through an awful hour, why not walk out and save that hour and a half? The money is already gone, so why suffer?

I know the one chain here does refund tickets up to a certain point.

I work at a movie theater and I've seriously had guests sit through an entire movie and then try to get a refund because they didn't like it and I'm just like...sorry dude ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If it's only like 30 minutes in I'll give them a refund but most of the time I try to convince them to just take a pass for next time.
