Ouija: Origin of Evil - 8/10

Not the strongest period set horror but comes close in terms of modern horror. Strong performances, excellent production, sound design is spot on, plenty of scares, the tension is ratcheted up nicely and even though it indulges in some of the horror genre cliches it avoids others. Not even seen the first (reviews and the trailer put me off) but this was a solid surprise.

    Blackfish (2013)

not really sure how to approach reviewing documentaries, they give the impression that they are at their core trying to be educational but without already being an expert on the subject its hard to tell how much of the truth is being told or how much bias towards an agenda is being push, how much was cut out or not shown.

i watched Blackfish and the Louis Theroux Scientology Movie (plus like 10 of his others) recently. Blackfish was horrifying and fascinating, if you can handle watching real people get killed by the ocas they love watch it. There's an obvious bias towards the trainers that are interviewed who claim ignorance while SeaWorld peddled false information and with SWs apparent refusal to comment plus the evidence shown SW comes across looking very evil. Not knowing anything about Ocas, SeaWorld etc. I took most of it at face value and just experienced the documentary; on a scale of interesting + emotion it would score very high. This year Harambe took one kid for a ride and got blasted, Tilikum has killed 3 people and is still performing.

    Crimson Peak - 8/10

Still one of my favorite horror films of recent times and I still hate the fact barely anyone saw it when it was originally released.

Clue: A movie I vaguely remember catching on cable one rainy night when I was 6. Finally decided to give it the proper watch it deserves, and I think there's going to be many rewatches to come. I enjoyed every minute of it. The cast, the snappy dialogue, the farcical tone. I can't remember the last time a movie got me this excited. 9/10 for me, and I can't wait to show it to my friends

So so happy to see this! My absolute favorite movie of all time! Seen it no joke 50+ times and love it every single time.

With the exception of Night Moves, Reichardt has been on a remarkable run. It should be something worth watching.

I remember my then-girlfriend bringing Clue over to my house for us to watch and me thinking "wow you picked a movie about a board game, top notch choice" and then being blown away by how entertaining it was. Really a fantastic movie.

Night of the Living Dead - 9/10
Dawn of the Dead - 9.5/10
Day of the Dead - 8.5/10

Watching these three back to back gave great insight into how Romero evolved the genre he established over those 17 years and even though it isn't the best of the three Day of the Dead is my personal favorite.

  16. Girl on the Train was okay. Good performances and some nice ideas and themes, but overall I think it was somewhat poorly executed. Worth the price of matinee.

A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night was really good, made me think of Let the Right One In. My brother said it could've been condensed into thirty minutes, and I guess he's not entirely wrong. I liked the pacing, though. It gave the scenes the weight they deserved, gave the actors the time needed to go through complex emotions.

    Don't Look Now - 9/10

Somewhat losing the impact it used to have with me but that is only down to the fact this is one of my favorite films which consequently means it is one of my most watched films. I will however never tire of the location of Venice being used to great effect, the score is still amazing and the two leads are as enthralling to watch as ever.

I haven't seen this one but I know the plot and the infamous ending. What does it all mean?

Sutherland's character has psychic abilities (not that he knows it until it is too late) and sees not only the impending death of his daughter (the red on the picture at the beginning) but also the future and his own death which is why he sees his wife and those two women on the funeral boat plus he thinks the woman in the red coat is his daughter which is why he chases after her but she is actually a murderer that is touched upon throughout the film

    They Live - 8.5/10
    Dead & Buried - 8/10

Two of my favorite horror films from the 80's with Dead & Buried being severely underrated, features Jack Albertson in one of his very last roles and is enthralling from start to finish.

So what are the themese? What does the woman in red have to do with any of the rest of their plot except for that the main cha racer mistakes her for his daughter Kinda seems like some Shymalan stuff

Music, Gaming, Movies and Guys = Life

His daughter was wearing the same red rain mac when she died and with him being grief stricken along with his wife (who believes that their daughter is trying to contact them and warn them through the two women they meet) so in my view he is just desperate to be with his daughter again, there are far more in depth views on this film than I can give since a lot of it has double meanings with the picture exuding red at the beginning meaning both the death of the daughter and blood being spilled by the killer

Does the murderer have anything to do with anything except for she looks like their daughter? and she kills the dad when he gets close. Or is there more links there?

i may get better but we won't ever get well Prestigious

broadly speaking, i would say (not being snarky) you're looking at it too... "logically"? there are explanations for everything, but the film is more about the idea that where its characters went wrong was assuming they had the whole picture and acting upon it. there's tons of mixing between past, present, and future, most notably the self-fulfilling prophecy wherein sutherland sees his wife on the river in black, ultimately leading to his death and his wife mourning him in black on the river and there are references to the color red being a harbinger of danger, one which sutherland could have identified had he not been so single-minded in his focus of seeing a small figure in red and thinking it was his daughter (again mixing up past and present). the subplots of the movie are really just things that occur, and then are recontextualized by new information or clarified after muddied communication.

I had read about this and was interested because of the wtfness of the end. I mean yeah I havent seen it and Ive spoiled it for myself, but I gotta say the plot kinda sounds like nonsense.
