The Sheep Detectives - 8/10
I went into this blind, only knowing the cast and good reviews. The was a cozy family-friendly whodunnit. Think Knives Out mixed with Babe. There’s some existentialism about death and loss that really surprised me. Great movie.

I, Robot was terrible but the obvious cues from Minority Report were entertaining enough. It almost kind of works as a commentary on AI CEO's but that is obviously an accident. It is so weird that they kept calling them robots, though. It does not really roll off the tongue or feel natural. Mechs or bots or something else could be catchier.

 

The ending is fun but it really takes it's time getting there!

I think I actually prefer the movie over the book.

 

i saw Girls Like Girls. overall not bad but not great. super cute though. and the two leads are fantastic. my main gripe is that most of the exposition is revealed in dialogue. as a result, the movie is kinda a mess. but that's okay! i'm sure this will be lifechanging to any young queer kids who see it. they're the target audience! not some disgruntled old lesbian who's never been in a relationship and didn't even know she was trans until she was almost 30...

 

now i kinda wish i did the gay barbenheimer thing. Leviticus is clearly the stronger film by far, but this would've been the perfect palate cleanser after such a harrowing experience

Disclosure Day - 7/10
Uncompromisingly idealistic in a way only Spielberg could pull off, and quite frankly, I'm not even sure he did. But if you can get on his wavelength, it grows on you. An overstuffed film filmed with underdeveloped characters and themes that gradually gives way to the kind of undistilled sincerity that has become a hallmark of the direcore's filmography, largely unchanged from the way he's always presented it, to the point that Disclosure Day feels like a film made 40 years too late. (Choices that would have made this a classic then often feel strange to see in 2026, and eventually, you either accept the film as pure escapism or discount it for not being more "realistic" or in tune with the way our world currently feels). In that sense, I found it refreshing, fascinating, and sporadically very beautiful - warts and all.

Savageland - 7/10
GREAT premise with pretty good execution albeit some questionable performances. The choice to use photography as opposed to traditional found footage is inspired and effective. I'm surprised I don't hear more about this one as the quality is definitely above average for a found footage flick (which I say as someone who loves found footage) and it feels perfect for the Lake Mungo/Horror in the High Desert horror mockumentary fans. I hope this crew decides to make another film someday.

Girl Internet Show: A Katie Kelli Mixtape - 8.5/10
Weird and pure and beautiful and still incredibly fresh. A gift. Thank you Jane and Jordan. Rest in Peace, Kati.

We're All Going to the World's Fair - 8/10
A film that gets better and more heartbreaking and beautiful with every watch. Schoenbrun really tapped into that mental space that only former (and current) weird, terminally online kids with recognize. The title sequence with Alex G's theme playing over dirty snow and dead grass and semi-rural Best Buys and KFCs and shit is literally perfect.

 

Half an hour into the Butterfly Effect and I really can't take anymore. It feels like a fake movie.

Striking Distance is a 10/10. Best movie ever about a Pittsburgh river cop.

I doubt it has much competition in that regard, but outside of some of the cast and that great car chase, it does not have much else going for it. Still, it is at least better than another Bruce Willis dud from the nineties in the form of Mercury Rising.
