I still have brain fog from watching the Mario Movie 2, Scary Movie 6, and Mortal Kombat 2 within a very short time so I am pausing my popular movies project and running through the canon again. There is nothing to say about Citizen Kane that has not been said already, but it is interesting how there is a huge exposition dump in the beginning of the film basically telling you the entire plot before doubling back and depicting it. You always hear about the influences the film had on filmmaking technique but other biopics rarely tell the story in that way.
I Bury the Living - 7.5/10 Stephen King called this one of the scariest films ever made, but disliked the ending. I disagree on both counts! As many have mentioned, this plays like an extended Twilight Zone episode, a bit dry but sufficiently creepy and cozy, until a third act reveal and twist that is so bizarre and slightly nonsensical that it would make a Scream writer blush. A strange little paranoid horror story with a third act that distorts everything that came before it. This is a good thing.
Alphabet City - 7/10 Tuner - 8.5/10 DeepStar Six - 6/10 Funny People - 5/10 Masters of the Universe (2026) - 7/10
I remember looking Funny People and I reckon I probably still do. Eminem feuding with Ray Romano was a good bit
They're fun movies if you just enjoy spending time with those actors/characters, which I typically do (or at least did - haven't watched an Apatow film in years)
Underworld U.S.A. - 8.5/10 An American Tragedy - 7/10 Apex (2026) - 5.5/10 Strictly Ballroom - 7.5/10 Disclosure Day - 9/10
I just finished Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die. Ummm…maybe 8.5/10 I got big Everything Everywhere vibes. The themes and message got kinda preachy. Sam Rockwell’s performance was great…and surprisingly the kid at the end. There was a reveal at the end that I kicked myself for not seeing coming before. The flashback about the clones and school shootingswas some really dark humor and good commentary. It wasn’t as wild as the reviews made it seem, but maybe I’m just used to weird media.
Yeah, I get it. It seems like they’re being compared lately just because they’re horror movies coming out around the same time breaking records. Style wise, they’re not very similar.
