The mountain of women's hair really struck me on this viewing. It's such an absurd visual that almost seems endless.
Happy Madison films are still not getting any better... Joe Dirt - 2/10 Silent Hill - 6/10 Kalifornia - 6/10 State of the Union - 7.5/10 Savage Sisters - 5.5/10
Rollerball (1975) - 7.5/10 An excellent film for those that are more interested in dramatic dialogue from a guy who looks like Kevin O'Leary than they are in actual scenes of Rollerball Assault on Precinct 13 (1976) - 8/10 Scrappy in some ways, but shockingly meticulous in others. You could play madlibs with Carpenter's premises and as long as there's isolation, a looming sense of dread, and some kind of escape being attempted, you're in business. Escape From New York - 7.5/10 Took me few watches (the action genre isn't always my forte), but I am finally on board with this one. Love the ensemble cast, love the visual effects, love how episodic it feels for just 90 minutes. Some good shit. Moon Garden - 8.5/10 It's like someone stuck Guillermo Del Toro, Silent Hill, and Mad God in a blender. Flawed, but beautiful, feverish stuff. I've never seen anything quite like it.
Did a double bill at the cinema with the last two films and somehow Armageddon wasn't the dumbest of the two - Maximum Overdrive - 6/10 The Hindenburg - 8/10 Riders to the Stars - 5.5/10 Armageddon - 6/10 Mercy - 4/10
Man, I know it's kinda endemic to the disaster genre, but I remember The Hindenburg being like outright mean. Well-made but oof.
Mean in what way? I think deaths in other films in the genre from that time were way harsher, with the likes of the train crash in The Cassandra Crossing for instance and The Towering Inferno, with how the likes of Robert Wagner meets his end in particular.
Blood of Revenge - 9/10 Only Two Can Play - 7.5/10 The Delightful Forest - 8/10 Charisma - 7/10 Cloud - 8.5/10
the homie is watching films I've never even heard of and I have pretty extensive knowledge in this department that alone is impressive
I'd love to take sole credit but it is thanks to both Letterboxd with the ability to look at the entire filmographies of a range of people and Blu-ray labels releasing films, which both combine to put such films on my radar. Just those five alone were released by Radiance Films, StudioCanal, 88 Films and Eureka.
Secret Service of the Imperial Court - 8.5/10 No Other Choice - 9/10 Shaft in Africa - 6/10 Illustrious Corpses - 9/10 The Snow Creature - 5/10
Finally, a Happy Madison film that was tolerable and even slightly funny. Mr. Deeds - 5/10 King of Beggars - 8/10 Silent Hill: Revelation - 2/10 Shelter - 7/10 Speed - 10/10
A 5/10 is a far better score than the prior four got and I certainly laughed more with Mr. Deeds than all four of the others combined. It just didn't work enough for me on a dramatic or emotional level.
Alright damn it, you made me curious about what I've seen. Loose ranking: Hustle Funny People 50 First Dates Just Go with It Click Eight Crazy Nights The House Bunny Murder Mystery The Longest Yard Anger Management Mr. Deeds Paul Blart: Mall Cop Grown Ups Bedtime Stories Hubie Halloween Pixels The Hot Chick I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry Deuce Bigelow: Male Gigolo Jack and Jill 33 I haven't seen...
Captain Blood - 8.5/10 Return to Silent Hill - 4/10 Gun Belt - 6/10 Southwest Passage - 7/10 Top Gun (1955) - 6/10
Not much that is outstanding, but Primate was really fun, and director Johannes Roberts certainly is better with a chimpanzee than sharks. Carlton-Browne of the F.O. - 6.5/10 The Man in Black - 6.5/10 King of the Zombies - 6/10 Revenge of the Zombies - 6/10 Primate - 8/10
