It was coming back to the US from New Zealand. Which in hindsight seems like a better place to be right but now.
It was pretty fantastic. Spent about a month there in a campervan. The west coast and Fiordland National Park are two of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. We spent most of our time on the South Island but the North Island was pretty unbelievable too. Im also obsessed with Kiwi birds now. My only regret is that one month didn’t seem long enough.
Gotcha. Well I’d recommend it. It’s been on my bucket list ever since The Fellowship of the Ring came out. Tons to explore. Very friendly people too.
Off to see Dark Knight in IMAX today in exchange for them coming to Seed of the Sacred Fig at the art house next week.
Enjoyed Dark Knight for what it was. Batman is always a billionaire punching poor people and this one has more bad surveillance stuff. Health was electric and Nolan can do action. the bang scenes bang. My luxury IMAX recliner seat was paid for on points and provided a much improved experience over my Mr Bones wild ride seat at Nosferatu. 5mins of ads! We were a little late and assumed we were still going to get blasted for 25 gigantic minutes. Came in to clowns running up the bank as we ran up our seats. Cool to see the homage to Kubrick's The Killing after seeing last year. The start was weirdly anti Chinese. "If you wanted to kill me you should have bought American instead of Chinese", the Chinese business is immediately shown to be corrupt, the Chinese government would "never prosecute one of their own" and the entire hk police force is bought off.
Saw Vagabond for the first time on the big screen last night and man what a deeply empathetic movie while never sanding down the rough edges. It’d make a hell of a pairing with Into the Wild
Saw Novocaine. It was fine. Nothing to write home about but there are definitely worse ways to spend your time. No chemistry between the romantic leads, but otherwise all the acting was pretty good and independently the actors do well.
The Electric State - 1/10 Genuinely one of the worst "movies" I've ever seen, I hate the term slop but man, if the show doesn't fit on this one. Ready Player One was not a film I respected much but this one really shows how awful it could have been.
I have a bunch of new ones I could post but I don't know how annoyed people get with the long posts in here lol
i watched 2 movies yesterday before the devil knows you're dead (2007) - phenomenal performances all around including ethan hawke as the dumbest guy alive and the always incredibly phillip seymour hoffman . just the worst week of these people's lives the conversation (1974) - very very good kinda paranoia thriller, crazy that something like this came out 50 years ago now (and was written before Watergate I guess?) Gene Hackman rules, RIP, he looked 47 years old for 40 years
Anora (2024) - 5/10 Went into this with high expectations based on the awards and hearing how great it was. It was alright but I don't ever see myself thinking or talking about it after today.
