Y2K rules and I don’t understand the reaction either. Absolute blast at the cinema.

last movie in theaters was pre-baby – the boy and the heron – 8.7 / 10

love ghibli and the animation. plot was kind of weak, which i guess really isn’t the point of those movies anyways. would definitely watch again

I watched Past Lives this weekend and it was great.

  7. Some Kind of Monster - 9/10
This isn't a documentary for Metallica fans. It's not even necessarily a documentary for music fans. This is 100% a documentary for those interested in old-school rock tropes, celebrity narcissism, and interpersonal drama. If you ever wanted to watch a band unknowingly set out to record their worst album, or one of the world's most successful drummers get drunk and auction off his million-dollar paintings, or see band members scream at each other for wanting to spend more time with their families, boy do I have good news for you: this classic is now free on Youtube.

    Friday the 13th Part 2 - 8/10
First movie I watched after Emmett was born. Needed something cozy. Very likely a top three F13 flick.

    The Guyver - 7.5/10
Like an R-rated, horror adjacent Power Rangers feature or a precursor to Psycho Goreman. If you are here for the sheer insanity of it all (including all of the practical creature effects), you're probably not going to leave disappointed. (I didn't.)

    The Tingler - 7.5/10
I was fortunate enough to host this schlocky piece of work at Room 33 for Erie Horror Fest Presents and let me tell ya... it's fun to start with and even better with a crowd, even if you don't have access to spare airplane motors. I hope I get to host another flick someday. Long live the King(s).

    Mr. Sardonicus - 7.5/10
Sardonicus makeup has to be some of the most disturbing I've seen from this era, such a precursor to Brian Yuzna and Stuart Gordon and Screaming Mad George stuff. An unexpected slowburn piece of Gothic horror with well-paced reveals and very solid performances. I love my fourth-wall-breaking King William Castle.

  10. Not that I know of, I just did a lot of reading/podcast listening afterwards and it seems like people are way more accepting of the film's tonal shifts and narrative choices now than they were when it was originally released

I just watched Mystic Pizza on hbo max and I absolutely adored it. I always knew about it, but I never saw it until tonight.

It’s a fantastic coming-of-age story that was filmed in the late 1980s in Connecticut and the New England area. It follows the coming-of-age of three young Portuguese-American friends who work at a pizza parlor. It stars Annabeth Gish, Julia Roberts, Lili Taylor, & Conchata Ferrell (RIP).

Top tier small town romantic dramady that will make you feel. Check it out!

Mystic Pizza is great. It’s one of the better Julia Robert’s films.

The rare four for four on a long flight. Only one I probably won’t feel a desire to revisit, but I can say I enjoyed them all to various degrees.

GladIIator - Enjoyable enough, Denzel steals the show and makes the whole thing worth while. But it’s also a rare miss for a Mescal performance. Pedro was also criminally underused and really only had one scene to shine. The plot feels like it was forced to be closer to the original in unnecessary ways, but overall I liked this more than I expected.

Nickel Boys - Absolutely beautiful. The first person perspective really shines once it cleverly begins trading characters and finding inventive ways to get our two mains on screen at once. I wish Elwood was a little more developed pre-Nickel like he is in the book, but overall I loved it. The first person perspective creates empathy but never feels gimmicky.

A Real Pain - Loved it. Culkin and Eisenberg play off one another so brilliantly. Culkin in particular doesn’t just feel like a retread of Roman Roy style asshole. More just a troubled neurotic and anxious soul.

My Old Ass - Fun, heartwarming and ultimately a unique take on the coming of age story where it’s less about growing up and leaving adolescence, but more about cherishing being young and what you have in those moments. I only wish it had a little more Aubrey in it.

I just finished watching The Electric State and it's not the shit show I thought it would be but as a family adventure film it's fine and the special effects were really good but Millie Bobby Brown needs to pick better roles, she can't be stuck at Netflix for the big pay day for the rest of her career.. she has to evolve as an actor and pick roles to challenge herself because she is legit talented and has the potential to be a great actor but she needs to take chances and big swings in order for her career to evolve.

Is she talented? I haven’t really seen anything to indicate that.

All the seasons of Stranger Things so far, Enola Holmes but for me the film Damsel because she went through the ringer and carried that film big time and she was really good in it.

Hopefully she will go after more challenging material and stretch herself as an actor

I think she’s been okay in stranger things and what I remember of the first Enola Holmes is that everyone was really bad. Didn’t see Damsel but thought she was absolutely terrible in the Godzilla movie.

I agree about the Godzilla films, she was bad but I blame the writing and directing for that, both Enola Holmes films she showed a ton of charisma and charm in both films.

She has time on her side to get better as an actor going forward but who knows if she want to take chances to star in films outside of Netflix or just stay there just to collect the bag, we just have to wait and see.

could be wrong, but i think she currently has an overall deal with Netflix, so it'll be a bit before we see her take on different types of roles

Yeah her production company signed an overall deal with netflix, she started her production company when she was 15 years old I think when the first Enola Holmes film was made which is crazy! I agree it's probably gonna be a good while before we see her take on different types of roles outside of Netflix.
