I thought Immaculate was a super fun B-movie and preferred how bonkers it was to The First Omen, which is virtually the same movie but more straight-laced
I didn't love either of them tbh, but I would argue the car crash scene in First Omen (or technically right after it) is more bonkers than anything in Immaculate
A.I. Artificial Intelligence - 8/10 It's funny how quickly I went from thinking this would be typical Spielberg fare about a robot child to, "This is one of the more profoundly disturbing films I've seen in a long time." I didn't even know about the Kubrick stuff! Anyway, I'm glad this is finally getting its flowers because I kind of can't stop thinking about it. Such a strange journey that alternates between touching and upsetting. The Flesh Fair has not left my brain. Haley Joel Osment has a legitimate case for being one of the best child actors of all time. Y2K - 8.5/10 Genuinely confused about the mixed reactions to this one. It's Superbad-lite with practical effect killer robots. A funny, breezy watch with a great soundtrack and exactly as much Fred Durst as every film should have. What's not to love? Nightbitch - 4/10 Strong premise, lackluster execution with an unfortunate #Girlboss tone that kind of drags the whole thing down. The narration is overwritten, certain moments feel unearned or cheap, but for what it's worth, the cast does a solid job with what they've been given. I've heard good things about the book, and those I know who have read it don't seem surprised that this adaptation didn't quite land. Wolf Man (2025) - 6.5/10 It's got everything but heart. Leigh Whannel's Wolf Man is a fun monster mash fit for an amusement park ride, packed to. the gills with sharp action sequences, effective transformation effects, and fantastic performances from a relatively small but efficient cast. Unfortunately, as much as we all love The Fly, the characters here simply aren't fleshed out enough to give you anything substantial to chew on by the film's surprisingly predictable ending. Still, I would take 100 more of these over another new Conjuring spinoff. Companion - 8.5/10 Really, really close to being great. Just really clever writing that gets away with not being subtle and fully embraces the dark comedy if its premise while remaining horror-adjacents. Lots of blood and laughs punctuated by two pitch-perfect lead performances. Whoever decided to spoil the first twist in the film's trailer should be taken out back and dealt with appropriately. Babygirl - 5/10 I love Bodies Bodies Bodies, I love Nicole Kidman, and I love erotic thrillers, so it bring me no joy to report that Babygirl is mostly a swing and a miss. There's some obvious fun to be had with the performances here, and Reijn's directing remains competent, but the messaging is simply to muddled to offer anything substantial for audiences to chew on once the credits roll. Not terrible enough to entertain, not provocative enough to justify its hype, just kind of... there. Been sitting on a bunch of stuff since January, bear with me while I catch up a few at a time.
I can only imagine how satisfying it must have felt for every creative person involved in the making of the ending of the movie Misery, and that was pre-Internet and social media, where fan obsession has only gotten demonstrably worse.
I've only thought about it more since watching. It's flawed, but extremely fascinating. Most of these are backlogged from January. I think I've only watched four movies total, usually split into two sittings, since he was born three weeks ago. But he definitely does sleep a lot
this is also true now lol he only sleeps like 2-4 hours at a time. I've been taking the night shift and going to bed at like 5am, but that's not going to be sustainable with work
I was worried about this so I've just been keeping the volume low and his face not facing the screen (because of the TV light, not because he can see anything lol)
My son sleeps through the night. I just have an active job and then have to come home and be a good dad until he goes to bed and then I am beat.
