You wrote a statement and then used brackets to tell us that it was wrong. Just write the correct statement.
I did do this, but to be fair, the film in brackets was directed by Eggers and his brother, and it's his only non-horror-feature, so it doesn't exactly feel like a part of his solo filmography, hence the clarification
I guess it’s just semantics and genre classification isn’t the most important thing about these movies at all, but I rewatched it the other night in anticipation of Nosferatu. There are plenty of horror elements, so I get it, but I didn’t feel it had all the same goals that I associate with most horror, and I found the tone closer to something like psychological thriller/surrealist character drama than horror overall, at least enough to blur the lines more than the Witch and Nosferatu, which feel very intentional in their genre and that more traditional horror tone. I guess I associate it with that Ingmar Bergman tonal balance where it’s unsettling and often horrifying, but also complex enough to transcend easy genre definition.
I definitely agree with the things you're pointing out, I think it's just semantics. Horror is how I would classify it in a much broader sense.
Nosferatu - 5/10. To say I'm disappointed, is a bit of an understatement. Loved witch. Thought this was pretty boring honestly as i didn't feel Eggars brought enough to make this Dracula remake worthy of a $15 ticket.
Jealous? of the amount condistioner they can afford, yes. I would have my servants follow me around spritzing me on the hour.
Nosferatu (1922) - 9/10…I haven’t seen many silent films, but this added to the creepiness of it. I read this was criticized for being a copy of Dracula when it was released and I can totally see that. Still, awesome movie. I’m glad this was on Prime. Hopefully, I’ll see the new one soon! Sonic 3 - 8.5/10…Seeing this in the theater after watching Nosferatu gave me whiplash lol. This and Transformers One this year prove you can make a kids movie adults can love. Shadow’s backstory was a tearjerker and I loved Keanu’s voice work. The music, action scenes, and visuals make this better than recent MCU movies. The fan service for fans of the game was totally there. The post credit scene has me hyped for part four.
back in action (2024) - 22% on rotten tomatoes but a solid 6/10 in my eyes. Turn off life for 2 hours and enjoy this fun little spy diddy to take your mind off current shenanigans of the real world.
