I've seen it said that he goes back and forth between serious films and fluff. I haven't seen enough of his stuff to verify though
I assume he subscribes to the "one for them, one for me" philosophy that a lot of actors do. He might just do more like "five for them, one for me."
Haven't seen Now You See Me 2 yet but God do I love the 1st and am real excited for the 2nd. It won't be until it hits Blu-Ray that I'll likely buy it, watch it, and love it.
I did not realize that the title Face/Off was literal. Why was Cage left alone in a hospital with access to a phone, John Travolta's face, and the name of the doctor?
Independence Day - 7/10 Independence Day: Resurgence - 7.5/10 Saw both in a double bill feature and as a result it is gone 2am so I will be brief, yes I could pick holes if I wanted but I am not because I enjoyed both (been wanting to see the first on the big screen for ages) despite their flaws as I do get plenty of fun out of them. I am sure plenty of people will enjoy shredding the new one like they did with the first but whatever, as far as big budget sci-fi you can do a whole lot worse and here is something that probably won't go down well I was bored for longer parts by The Force Awakens than Resurgence.
Toy Story 1 and 3, Wall-E and Nemo would top the list. Monsters Inc, Inside Out and Ratatouille just a hair behind them
Finding Dory The movie was good overall, but they went a bit over the top towards the end. One of the the things I really like about the most Pixar films is that they tend to stick with their own internal guidelines of how their world works. I feel like the last part of Dory, took me out of the film. But I still enjoyed the film
I'd exchange Toy Story 2 in for 3, Monster's Inc for Wall-E but the rest I agree with. Haven't seen Inside Out and not really a fan of Ratatouille at all, good choices overall though.
Conjuring 2 - 8/10 15 minutes shorter and this would have gotten an easy 9 from me. I LOVEDDDD this. The girl that played the 'main girl' was fantastic, such great facial expressions that instantly reminded me of exorcist. I loved how Wan took his time with the characters and didn't go for the easy horror movie cliches. It just ran a bit too long. Thumbs up
I think Inside Out is by a wide margin better than any other Pixar film. It is emotionally complex and beautiful and a touching, bittersweet, nuanced portrait of childhood and memories and growing up and psychology. Up and Wall-E have incredible sequences in their beginning and then slide into comfortable, fun, but not overly complex or elevated stretches for the rest of their runtime. They're still great, I just think people can overvalue the significantly strong openings. Toy Story, the Incredibles and Toy Story 3 are also up there, Ratatouille, Finding Nemo and Monsters, Inc. probably also belong in that tier, with the rest in some order behind them for me. Only Cars 2 was legitimately bad, but I haven't seen the Good Dinosaur.
Ratatouille gets bonus points for being a workable kids movie about the artistic process and inspiration starring a rat. High marks for difficulty
Brave is pretty high for me, need to rewatch it soon. Incredibles is good but imo overrated. Up is very good.
The drama behind Brave hurt my enjoyment 'Brave' director Brenda Chapman breaks silence on being taken off film
I'm not as huge on Brave (comparatively, it's still a very good movie), but most women I know VERY much are, and considering the movie's message, maybe I'm just not its target audience.
The worst Pixar movies (Cars 2 and A Bug's Life) are both 7/10s. 6 at the LOWEST. So really it's all a matter of degree.
