Cronenberg makes my skin crawl, but...he's trying to. Videodrome and Dead Ringers are both excellent movies I'll never need to see again.
Scanners was my entry point and it led to him being my favorite director for a long time. Maybe he still is. I haven't really thought about it lately.
looking for more movie recommendations, if anyone would be so kind. I still have quite a few on my list to see but for one reason or another I’m not too keen on watching them atm.
Taking a brief glance at my Letterboxd - I like NOPE more each time I watch it. Prisoners is great if you're in the mood for something dark. Beau is Afraid is my favorite film of the year. I'm always gonna recommend Jacob's Ladder. Would also recommend American Movie or Be Kind Rewind if you're looking for something a little more upbeat. I've posted about most of these in here, I'm sure
He's an awful piece of shit, but before he really went around the bend, he was an excellent actor. Salvador is fantastic.
The Fellowship of the Ring - 9/10 A truly great fantasy film with some of the best directing I've ever seen. It's shocking how well this has aged, even with some of the dated shots or CG. It still just looks so good. Perfect casting. It's honestly way less intimidating than I remember, too - the length is rarely felt and mostly earned. Hobbits are literally useless. Boromir was such a a real one.
I just saw this movie and it is really special. It is a great study of a person who is at the height of selfishness.
Maybe eventually. This is just a reaction to the first film. I also doubt they could have done so without Boromir and others dying in combat while they watched on lol.
I feel a little bad if that is a spoiler but I feel like that is up there with Darth Vader being Luke's father and Bruce Willis being dead in The Sixth Sense in terms of cultural knowledge.
