Dr. Bird's Advice for Sad Poets is one of the most godawful, morally loathsome, utter pieces of shit I've ever seen. I was ANGRY when the credits rolled. Christ.
Yeah pretty much. Like oh this is god damn southern Baptist revival but Cool didn’t have a big crowd (at 11 on a Saturday in Oklahoma City who could be surprised) but it was fun to see people into it and dancing in their seats
I saw the live-stream premiere with the interview thing and the whole IMAX was packed with hyped people. Closest I'll ever get to seeing them in concert, vibe wise.
No One Will Save You - 7/10 I have many thoughts about this movie (some of which aren’t the most positive) but I mostly enjoyed it. sure, the aliens are rather goofy (ok they’re goofy af) but I’d argue they’re mostly a MacGuffin and that the real narrative is all about the lead character and how she navigates the world around her both before and after the invasion. I don’t know the actress just yet but the film kind of hinges on her performance and she delivers. the more I think about it, the more I realize I like it. not perfect by any means but definitely worth a watch
Jigsaw - 5.5/10 Extremely dumb fun. Attack of the Clones - 6.5/10 It's not a very good movie, but it's better than I remembered. About on par with the first if you don't count the podracing scene. Mostly pleasant, an easy watch.
I don't know if I would call them good, either, but I agree. Solid 3/5 flicks with Revenge of the Sith actually being pretty good film.
JFK (1991) - As a political thriller it's pretty good, but i'm here for rabbit hole and Its looking sus. John Candy as Dean Andrews Jr was awesome JFK Revisited: Through the Looking Glass (2021) - It's still sus but im done, no more podcasts and youtube either for a while.
Even at the time I knew Attack of the Clones was hard to sit through. Of course, I did not know how bad it would get a few years later.
JFK is a masterpiece but I'll never need to dive further into the rabbit hole than that film Hope the rumored 4k coming is true.
Shouldve noted I watched the directors cut by accident and it was over 3hours, which i assume is better for the rabbit hole but worse for the film. Trying to find a theatical version of Alien 3 atm oh and shout to the the Seinfeld magic bullet scene!
Gangs of New York - I had a copy of this growing up, but I never actually watched it. Definitely bottom-tier Scorsese, but that's still better than most. There are still moments of incredible tension, like the knife-throwing scene with DDL and Cameron Diaz. And I did enjoy the draft riots undercutting what is supposed to be a huge final battle. Ultimately, I do like what the movie is trying to do with paralleling gang violence with political violence and national identity. It's strange to me that this is the movie that kicked off the long-term Leo/Marty collaboration. He's fine in it, but what is going on with that accent? It is all over the place.
The 2000's are by far Scorsese's worst decade. I thought he had permanently lost his touch until The Wolf of Wall Street came out.
