Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country - 8.5/10 It’s cool we get to see how Klingons got accepted into the Federation.
Super Mario Bros. Movie - 7.5/10 Fun film with lots of Easter eggs from the games. Nothing too deep, but that’s fine considering what it is. The animation was some of the best I’ve seen.
Christopher Plummer in Klingon makeup quoting Shakespeare is honestly something we didn't deserve as a society, but I'm thankful we got anyway.
The Blackening - 7.5/10 Just fun as hell (and mostly very funny) even if the jokes can be hit or miss. Give us a sequel!
Catch Me If You Can - 7/10 pretty fun movie, young Leo is charming as always, love seeing Hanks (especially the scene where Leo asks him for his eclair on the plane - really cracked me up the way Hanks shoved it in his mouth) saw a lot of people I follow on Letterboxd give this really high marks but I didn't quite love it afterward, had a good time reading about how basically everything shown in the movie was an exaggeration or outright lie by Frank Abagnale Jr
I thought it was supposed to come out last week and was very disappointed I had to wait another week. I just watched Shiva Baby for the first time, so now my hype has sky rocketed.
Shadow of the Vampire - 8.5/10 Topics I enjoy include horror films, movies about making movies, alternate history, and Willem Dafoe, so yeah, this felt tailor-made for me
Caught the 4K restoration of Oldboy in NYC last night with my dad, and boy has it aged incredibly well. You know you've been rocking with a movie for a very, very long time when the "and no will be able to find your body" quote is in your LiveJournal bio. Bonus is that my dad loved it too, but I think him having only sons and no daughters probably helped with that, ha. One thing I need to call out is that it probably remains my favorite soundtrack of all time. Just perfect, especially how The Last Waltz is threaded throughout, and especially most devastatingly in that incredible final sequence. It remains a 10/10 classic.
