Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home - 8/10. This one is so much fun. It completes the trilogy 2 stated. Lots of humor with a “save the whales” message.
Talk to Me - DNF First time I've walked out on a movie in a long time, wasn't really feeling it and the crowd experience was terrible, maybe it'll hit better at home
It continues directly from the third, but they do probably give you enough to work with if you don't, since I saw the 4th first as a kid.
Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home Star Trek: The Motion Picture Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country Star Trek: First Contact Star Trek: Generations Star Trek: Insurrection Star Trek III: The Search for Spock Star Trek: Nemesis Star Trek V: The Final Frontier I don't really know how to rank the Abrams in there. Just a totally different style of Trek movie.
Wrath of Khan The Voyage Home First Contact Generations Search For Spock Final Frontier Insurrection Nemesis haven’t seen the other two yet. I’ll probably watch them this week.
Dirty Grandpa - 3.5/5 - One of my favorite aspects of film going is discovering that a torn apart by the critics comedy is secretly hilarious King of New York - 5/5 - My first Abel Ferrera. I need more. Showgirls - 4.5/5 - Might bump up to 5 stars on future viewings but what a wild movie The Godfather - 6/5 - Saw in theaters for the first time (on 35mm!!) I have seen it many many times before but this felt like seeing it for the very first time. It plays so much better with a crowd on the big screen. A religious experience great week for me
A lot of people hate the first one because it's slow, but that's kinda what I love about it. It's almost Malick-ish in how long it lingers on beautiful space phenomena and on the beauty of the ship itself. It also actually walks the walk on the show's mission of discovery and exploration, I feel like. Majorly underrated, imo.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw - 4/10 this is terrible. I can’t really think of any positives to take away from it either. the kills were even subpar
Lady Vengeance - 9/10 Probably my least favorite of the "Trilogy" but, judging by my rating you can think about how highly I regard Mr. Vengeance and Oldboy. I think this thing is really dynamite until the climax which I love in theory but let's some air out of the balloon before recovering at the very end. Still adore this thing of course!
Pee-Wee's Big Adventure - 9/10 In Pee-Wee's world, it's cool to be weird. Most people don't get annoyed with his antics, and if they do, he wins them over. Women throw themselves at Pee-Wee. Bikers want to be him. There isn't an ounce of cynicism to be found, and that's what makes this movie so, so special.
Shiva Baby - This was so good and so different from what I was expecting. It's like a more claustrophobic, love triangle, coming-of-age Uncut Gems. Absolutely hilarious too. The mini-van scene at the end is perfection. I'm so much more excited for Bottoms now.
Oh, I've seen Molly Gordon in Theater Camp and Rachel Sennott in Bodies x3, I should probably watch Shiva Baby. Bottoms trailer is great.
been looking at letterboxd and some of you have given me ideas as to the next few movies I plan on watching (though tbf: Aaron’s initially came from here) but this is what I have for the next few: Maniac Cop Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure The Conversation Leaving Las Vegas might do Maniac Cop tonight
